Question 2012 KLX 250S vs 2012 Ninja 250R ( Costco )

Hi Everybody!

I am new to the forum, so please forgive if posted in wrong spot.

I am looking for a new Kawasaki ..

Have decided either a KLX 250 S or a Ninja 250R.

The cheapest I can find the KLX250S on the Costco deal is $4855 plus tax & dmv fees. (Kawasaki does not allow freight/preparation fees, which is almost $1,000 at the dealers here in Central California on Costco Deal)

So around $5340 Out The Door.

The Ninja 250R appears on the Costco list website, but the dealers say it's not part of the deal (kind of boggling to me as it does show on Costco website).

I am now pushing towards the Ninja.. MSRP is $4199 , one dealer says they will compete with Costco deal to sale me either bike.

ANy suggestions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i always prefer enduros with such a small engine dude...i have a 300 klx and love it..
klx250 for me dude

nope just mine


that 250 ninja will be all revs and slow as hell...the klx will have more low power and easier to ride in traffic..i've been riding 32 years..mostly in london dude...i've riden both types of bikes..the enduro is the one..

Funny, I actually sat on a KLX250S at the dealership yesterday. Seemed like a very cool little bike.

You really have to ask yourself. Are you doing 100% street riding? Maybe want to do some occasional track days at the road course? If so, the Ninja 250 is what you want. The KLX250 is more like a 100% any where any time bike. If you ever find yourself traversing via gravel or dirt roads, wanting to check out that 4x4 trail up the mountains, or do a lot of camping the KLX seems like a perfect bike for it.

Now, I personally know nothing about the KLX myself, just saw one at the dealer and sat on it. I haven't researched to see if there are better bikes out there for the money, etc. etc.

I've done what research I can/know how to do.

For a new bike the KLX250S/SF or Ninja250R seem the best for the money.

Especially the klx on the Costco deal.

Im a country boy and a hunter but now live in the city.

I am edging towards the Ninja if I can get a great price.

Not sure how often I will actually use bike in the dirt.

yeah with a punny engine though...i've had 250 four strokes in the past and sold em within a month or 2..

yeah that one's cool aswell..thing is dude for comuting an enduro is way better imho..way easier to get around cars

dude only u can decide...seems like your hell bent on the ninja...go for that then ...but why not get a 600cc used bike...surely a bigger engine is better aye?

Do you have to buy new? Why are you considering a 250? Is it because you don't want to kill yourself on your first bike? You should be able to pick up a second hand 500 or 650 for less than the price of a new 250 and either of those would make GREAT beginner bikes and would still be fun as you gain more skill.

IMO, 250s are pure commuter bikes that I'd never take on a freeway ever. Depending how big you are, they're good to MAYBE 85 so if you do a lot of highway riding you'll be running it near its max the whole time.
