Does anybody know of you can install '07 14 wheels on a 2000 ZX 12? I got a friend that wants to get rid of a set of stock 14 wheels. I was thinking of having them chromed and putting them on the 12.

Thanks for the help!

The rear wheel is a direct swap, but you will have to machine the brake rotor down to fit. The front I have not checked, but I'm sure it will require some mods to work due to the different brake systems.

Shane how much difference is the weight between the 2 rims i thought the 12 was lighter? I like the looks of the 14 wheels over the 12's if i get a extra wheel for drag racing I would like the 14 wheel.

Sounds like you know the zx12 and zx14 very well. I just picked up a turbo setup for the zx12.....do you know if the head is pretty much the same in terms of pipe fit to the head and the distance between them at the flanges? Just wonder if I may be able to modify the setup to work on the zx14 if I come across a decent deal on a 14 vs the 12.

If you happen to know. Also, is it a pretty similar motor overall - I can see the clutch cover from the photos and they look entirely different.

Thanks

Very different motors. I can't think of anything, right off, that interchanges.

I do believe the spacing is similar on the header; there is someone who is using a modified 12R header on their 14. There was some welding involved, I believe. Up-pipe, and all frame sealing plates will be different between the 12 and 14.

I should also mention regarding this wheel swap, it looks like the 14 rear caliper mount should swap over to the 12R, making rotor changes/mods unneeded. The front wheel has 320mm rotors on the 12R, 310 are on the 14. In order to get the caliper spacing right you will need to have bushings made, or use precision washers.

I belive the front brakes will work ok with the smaller rotors, but when I tried it they howled like hell. I might have had the calipers spaced unevenly since I just used some washers I had laying around. Also, some of that anti-squeal paste behind the pads may help.

so after all that the 14 rear wheel is a un modded swap??? is that what you are saying? are you sure ? because you stated the rotor needed to be modded then the use of the other caliper hangar would cure it?

The ZX-14 uses a larger rear rotor than the 12R. If you swap it directly over using the 12R brake hanger, it will not work.

I believe that the caliper hanger from the 14 might swap over to the 12R. If it does, you are in business. I have not tested it yet, but the parts look similar in my hands.

If someone else has the parts and bikes laying around, they could test it. Neither of mine have swingarms on them right now. If you don't mind waiting, remind me in a month when I have the 12R swingarm back on and I will try it.

arent 12 front rotors dished where-as 14 are more flat. 08-09 zx10 front rims fit a 12, the problem is the 10 rotors are flat. you hav to shim the calipers. radial mount would need rotor spaced out. speaking of zx10 rotors i got a new set of ap superbike rotors for sale. cmg

Yes, that is what I was saying....the front calipers require spacing via bushings or precision washers.

Good to hear about the 14 wheels swapping over with the right parts. I'm trying to track down a set of 10r or 14. And cmg ill be forwarding that email to ya at some point this evening.

2 questions are the 08-09 10r wheels the same as other years? The 10r swingarm swap is on my to do lost.

Secondly where does one procure precision washers? (Dumb question I know)

CMG was referring to the front rotors. The front rotor spacing is different on the 12 and 14. The 12R front rotors are also larger than the 14 front rotors. The rear rotor spacing is the same, but the 14 comes with a larger rear rotor.

I do not know if all of the 10R wheels are the same. It seems that "something" may be different, because the conversion kit for the 14 does not work for everyone. I had to have a spacer milled down in order to make it work:

McMaster Carr sells shimming washers in .5mm thickness. I am not certain if they sell the diameter needed.

McMaster-Carr

Hope this helps.
