Hey, I'm not talking strictly performance either.

Hi gang, new to the board here. I'm an ex-ZX11 owner and current rider of a fun little V-twin in the form of an SV650. While the SV is a fun and capable little commuter scooter, I am jonesin to get back to my uberbike roots.

I've test ridden a new Busa and enjoyed it. Nice looking (at least to my eye), tractable, linear power everywhere, but a bit on the weird feeling side relative to ergos.

For those of you who have ridden both bikes, which do you think represents the best choice? I know I'm on a 12R board, but I'm looking for some real objectivity here. FWIW, I'm 6'3" and 215 lbs.

Thanks, and ride well all!

BEING THE BIGGEST SIZED RIDER HERE I WOULD GO WITH THE 12R.. THE BUSA IS TOO LONG FOR REAL NICE CORNER RIDING.. WITH A 180 TIRE ON THE 12 THE BIKE PERFORMS ALMOST AS WELL AS THE 1K.. 5'11 275 LBS.. THAT IS MY OPINION.. I LIKE THE POWER THE BUSA HAS BUT I THINK FOR BIG GUYS YOUR BEST BET IS 1200 CC RATHER THEN 1300 CC..

I aree w/the man from another land I have ridden both bikes the Busa gets very uncomfortable in distance rides for taller guys.I like the Busa so don't think i am saying this because I have a 12 but if you want comfort, size, and speed go w/the 12.. JMO

I have rode a '01 Busa (friends) and I have an '01 12r. We both switch bikes one night. The 12 is alot more comfortable for me and he agreed also. We are both around 5'8-5'10". The Busa felt good down low but after 6k it fell off. I have geared my 12 down to the 17t and feels almost equal down low. A few good friends have rode both of our bikes and they all like the 12 better.

I have a friend that just picked up his 2002 busa friday, had the chance to switch and put about 70 miles on it. I think the busa is way more comfortable for me, lot less weight on my wrist and my head gets moved around a lot less on the busa, I also feel the busa pegs are a little more forward. Both my freind and I are 6'3 and right around 210lbs. he also said after the 70 miles on my 12 his wrist and elbows were sore. I think the 12 is a little stronger power wise.

GET THE ZX12R!!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Seriously though, on a stock bike I was able to do 350 miles ache free. Add the after market goodies and ya have one fast sport tourer.

I think everyone on this site is being a little bias on the comfort of the 12, the 12 is an awsome bike i've ran 9.92 at the track and that's faster then the busas in my area, unless there moded. the 12 has a bad case of ass to high in the air, my wife can't ride with me unless she puts her hands around me and leans on the tank. took her for a ride on his busa and I didn't even know she was back there, and corbin even makes a passenger back rest for the busa. I personaly like the looks of the 12 better. They are both great bikes and deserve a lot of respect. SGTSV we will have to meet for a ride sometime for sure, meeting half way would be great.

Okay, disregard what everyone said.

You own a 12, correct?

You are on the fence as to whether you like it, correct?

You like the Busa, correct?

Well, then go trade the 12 in on the Busa.

Problem solved. yes?

Do you really want small children and old people to point and laugh at you on a hire-a-bus??
Who wants to take the bus when you can ride a 12??
There ,you have my answer, but I am bias.(I hate suzukis)

If you're not breakin' the law you're not riding!!

Thanks you guys for the speedy responses.

To ZXBently, I live in Pott County. We ought to consider meeting halfway between here and Des Monies sometime...

Got any pics of your 12? You've got me interested in that we're about the same size.

Hey zxbently, consider the heli-bars. They are subtle but everyone I've talked to here and elsewhere said they made a huge improvement.

I am seriuosly thinking about adding them to my winter to-do list.

I have ridden both bikes.
Both are great machines that have their own character,
and are not really that much alike.

To me the busa felt long and low. More of a drag type
bike than a proper street mount. Although to be
honest once underway it did feel pretty good through
the turns. And the busa is a much smoother bike
than the 12 in my opinion. (although I have not ridden
an 02 12 which is supposed to be smoother)
The 12 feels more like raw power.
I do think the 12 handles better than the busa in the
turns.
And I like the seating position on the 12 better.
Feels like more leg room, and less pain in the wrists.
I am 6'5" 275 lbs.

Looks, performance, handling, comfort, it was all
12 for me. It was what I wanted.

I suggest you find as much info as you can.
And then buy what you want.

SGTSV,

I had to make the same decision back in April of this year. I purchased the 12R and have not looked back. Although Alien is a big dude, I will claim to be the largest rider out here: 6' 5" and 300lbs. I found that the ZX-12R had more leg room for my 35-36" inseam, but the clip-ons were more aggressive than the Bus. I put on Heli bars...and problem solved. Helis were absolutly the best purchase I made. I'm still all stock...I find the performance of the 12 simply awesome. The Busa is awesome as well, possible a little more down low, but I think you are splitting hairs at this point.

As far as looks, that is purely subjective...I find the ZX-12 to be a better looking ride, but that's me. Finally, in April 2002 Kawi had the 0, 0, 0 deal (which i still think they have)...that sold me (free money is a good deal). Good luck with your decision.

Hey blitz never said any thing about being on the fence maybe you did not read my entire post were I said I thought the 12 was better looking and had a little more power. The Busa is definitly a lot smother then my 12 and more comfortable, just trying to be honest. I think the 12 is a great bike but I won't shut myself off to thinking it's the only bike out there either. I now have 5900 miles on my 12 without a single problem and thats with 80 drag strip passes.
