I have a 1989 ZX10 that i'm wanting to modify. So far i have a D&D exhaust, stage 3 jet kit, and K&N air filter. I'm wanting to know what engine parts from a ZX11 will work with the ZX10 engine from the carbs to the oil pan. i,ve heard of people using the cylinder head, carbs, cams and oil pan from a ZX11 on the ZX10. Any help will be appreciated!

Hi there,

Yes, I fitted a ZZR1100/ZX11 head on my 89 ZX10.

I had to cut the valve 'cut outs' wider in the pistons, because the ZZR1100/ZX11 has larger valves. (Mine has a 1040 big bore kit)

I also fitted the larger bore ZZR1100/ZX11 carbs, but the problem here, is that the ZX10 air box is behind the carbs, and the ZZR1100/ZX11 air box sits on top of the carbs/cylinder head, under the fuel tank. I modified the rubber air intakes, and made an airbox out of sheet steel, and used two old ZX12-R K&N air filters.

I have some picture if you like!!

Thanx Dave.

I had a bad 4th gear in a zx11 and used one from a zx10. If I remember I had to change the whole set that was on the shaft to get it to work though. ZX11 and 10 oil pans will swap but the oil cooler tube locations are slightly different so iirc if you want a zx11 exhaust on the 10 you have to use a 10 oil pan. I also bored out a zx10 block and put in 11 pistons. ZX11 c and ZX11 d pistons are different but are the same size. I think the rings are different. Still have a few misc 10 parts I'll let go cheap. My old 10 with 11 pistons and cams stock carbs though. You cant tell but thats a ZX11 back wheel with a 180 tire on it..very minimal work to get it to fit.

I think a lot of engine parts from the ZZR1100/ZX11 C model are the same.

I know that ZZR/ZX11 D piston, little ends are different sizes to the ZX10

I also have a ZZR/ZX11 17" rear wheel fitted to my ZX10 with a 180 55 17, a much better choice.

Also with bespoke caliper brackets with ZZR/ZX11 4 pot calipers fitted, instead of the original ZX10 2 pot sliders, these were done in the 1990's

Thanx Dave.

The rear wheel I fitted was from a 'C' model,
and I did have to modify one of the swing arm chain adjust 'spools' (round things lol) for width.
I cannot remember if I used ZX10 od ZX11/ZZR1100 wheel spacers to put the wheel in the correct position.
A bit of trial and error, but make sure you get it right!!!!!

Thanx Dave.

You can use the stock zx10 spacers. The one on the left has to be milled 3mm and the one on the right 4mm. Use a C model zx11 wheel if you can because if you use a D model you will have to use a D model caliper due it using a different rotor. The C and the 10 rotor's are the same. There is a how to if you google Peters ZX10 site. Hope you paid attention in German class though. At the top left of the page click on ZX10 not ZX10r and look for this :
ZX10 Umbauten- Tipps etc. and then look under this : Hinterrad-Umbau auf eine ZZR1100 Felge 17X5,5 Zoll and study the pictures...its a hell of a lot easier than you think. I would just give you a hyper link but his site wont allow it.

Info from a clutch comparisson from ZRXOA

The 2004 & 2005 clutch hubs are the same.

The 2004 & 2005 clutch hubs do not have a damper.

The hubs were used in ZX10 and/or ZX11 in earlier years.

The 2004 & 2005 hubs will work without modifications to the hubs in earlier models of the ZRX 1200 & ZRX 1100.

The 2001, 2002, & 2003 ZRX 1200 had dampers in the clutch hubs.

The 1999 & 2000 ZRX 1100 did not have a damper. This is a good read if you were to sign up with them .:mfclap:
