Hi guys, I had the 12 out today and was coming home from a 100 mile ride today and before I got home started horsing around. I dropped the clutch and heard a slight pop and then a very strange vibration from the engine! Engine still runs perfect, with no abnormal noise or smoke. It's not related to speed because I can be at a standstill and rev the engine with the same results. I read somewhere on another forum for a different bike that it could be the clutch basket ( a race bike, he was shifting, heard a pop, felt a strange vibration, opened clutch housing and saw a big chunk missing from his clutch basket) and Ive read before that the zx12 clutch baskets can be pretty weak. Any help would be appreciated!

Now both bikes are off the road :'( the klx 650 for new exhaust coming soon and newpaint, and now the 12 lol

Check the clutch basket. Before riding it anymore!Abnormal vibrations can wipe out bearings,seals,etc.....Not to mention the damage that can be caused by broken parts floating around in your engine.

Ya, my plan was to do that when I get a chance. I hope that's what it is so I don't have to take the rest of the bike apart. I'll double check the engine mounts too but this issue seems like more than mounts because of the pop noise and sudden vibration. A bad bearing wouldn't cause that would it? Trust me, no riding till the issue is resolved.

As a side not, that's a nice 7r! I had a 93 zx7 for my first bike... Kinda miss it lol

Sounds like the general consensus is to check that which I will do. If that's not the issue, does anyone else have a suggestion of what it could be? Also, if it is the basket, where should I look for a new one? I know muzzy has one but that's 02-on and I couldnt find any used ones on eBay....prob because of the know issues lol. But like I said, what's the best bet with a new basket?

Thanks for the help so far

Exactly, I dropped the clutch which resulted in the vibration. It certain gives the feeling that something it out of balance because you only notice the vibration under higher revs when the engine is spinning faster

KLR down for repaint :headscratch: WTF?
Hey there! This ain't no klr 650, it's a klx 650! I take offense to that hahahahaha jk.:rotflmao: But seriously I'm repainting it, had red plastics and purple frame. Plastics will be black/possible green with the frame being painted black or green too. Looking at an sm conversion too but don't neccessarily have the assets to do that yet. Should look shweet when done :crazyloco:

*update* so I took the cover off and what do you know ....I found about 7 large pieces of the basket sitting there inside. So suffice it to say I believe I found the issue, now I have to pony up to muzzy and get the new basket
