12R started spewing oil out of what I think is this spot in this picture...

This is the side that the previous owner had layed it down on and it looks like there was a make shift plug stuck in that hole.

Does yours have a plug there or what?

Yeah it was drilled down, and then cross drilled for an oil passage. It sounds like it was damaged when he crashed. U could probably plug it again with JB Weld and call it good. Make sure you take the cover off though and make sure the oil passage doesn't get blocked off.

New covers like that are selling cheap on Ebay.
Just a thought.
Spend $50-80 and get a good one.

I put my 6R down on that side and had to replace that part cost me about $350 (from www.ronayers.com) to put it back together. But i did have to buy the stator also. Get the part number form kawi.com and check price on ronayers.com. But if you can weld it or plug do that first.

Black or Copper RTV would probably work also since you're not looking at a stressful part, nor a bunch of oil. (just oil mist way up at the top of the cover I'd say)

I was thinking RTV also. I'll have to try that.

Thanks!

I dont rtv is gonna work there. I think that cavity is under full oil pressure. There is a oil passage on the engine block that matches up with the hole in the stator cover. It probably sprays oil around in there to keep the stator cool. JB weld would be ur best bet. And if u can find a new cover for 35-50 bucks let me know. A new one is around 140 dollars or so.

Let me ask around on some of the other boards.

I dont want to tell this guy wrong. But I dont think it can just be plugged with RTV. Right or wrong??

there is no way rtv will work think about it if the 12 makes enough oil pressure to send oil through insulated wires..re<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=""> il leak thread.......then IMHO that rtv woudl pop like a cork outta a champagne bottle.......if ya can't weld it ....buy a new one......better off less headaches...Brian
