just had 6000km service & I get a deep sounding backfire after hard open throttle useage (but only sometimes) should I worry about this? Never had a backfire previously

What did they service? Just an oil change/filter etc? There is no way that would cause a backfire to start. Is your bike stock or modded.. ie: Power Commander.. pipe etc?

Yeah, what did they do???

Did they install the Muzzy Blockoffs???...Maybe they forgot to reconnect a vacuum hose???

bike is not modded in any way. bone stock 02 model . What causes backfires anyway?

KLEEN system still intact?

If it is - then it very well may be the reed valves opening up and dumping oxygen into the exhaust ports (which is what they're supposed to do). Dumping oxygen into the exhaust ports causes any unused gases to burn off, hence the popping (often refered to as backfiring).

If this is the case then it's nothing to worry about.

Some will say that you should remove the KLEEN system. However, I haven't found any good reason to do so.
