I got some good responses on another post...so thought I'd start one dedicated to a ride in the Black Hills next spring.

Probably looking around the end of May / beginning of June next spring?? If you haven't riden the Black Hills you should really consider. It's beautiful up in the mountains...plus tons of WIDE OPEN South Dakota roads for openin' it up!!

Silver & sleepr are in so far...any others?

Cookin, ya know my buddy just bought a new motorcycle trailer, I bet I could twist his arm and get hime to make a trip up there.

This is going to be a "brain wired on" ride and not a suicide jockey event, correct ?

Thanks, Blitz...

Don't know about Cookin', Blitz but I like to stay alive, don't mean we can't have a rippin good time though. Are we planning on making this an overnight thing? I'm a solid days ride away so I'll likely plan on shacking up somewhere in them thar Black Hills. I usually camp but could be conned into hotel/motels if there's enough people to make it worthwhile.

Significant other has just informed me she is coming along on her R1! I should be able to round up a few others from our local club.

Yeah, I would definitely not try to ride the bike up there from Denver. Not that I couldn't do it, I would just want to have fun on the bike once I got up there.

I'd have to talk to my buddy to see what his preferences are, but a hotel situation would probably work best for me due to time constraints.

Let's keep talking and see where everyone comes to.

And btw, your wife drives an R1 ? Cool, way cool....

Ya she rides an R1, problem is she still hasn't learned she's slower than me! Although the R1 is a good fit for her, we're still looking for a racebike so she can play hard on the track as well. This scares me cuz she can get real competitive real fast!

It takes me a good 6 hours from Sioux Falls where I live. I went earlier this year...headed up Friday night & stayed over in Rapid City. Rapid is the biggest town around with hotels, bars, etc. It's about 20-30 miles from the Black Hills.

Then we rode the hills all day Saturday...stayed in Rapid Sat night & headed for home Sunday morning. I put on 900 miles that weekend.

There are ton's of places to camp, however I'm a hotel guy. Sharing a room with 2 or 3 people is pretty cheap. But I'm open for either one...what ever works for everyone else.

By the way did I tell you all about the long stretches of open rode...oh yeah, and the 15mph switchbacks & tunnels through (yep blasted through) the mountains? Oh yeah, then there's bears and deer - or my favorite BUFFALO - especially coming around blind corners! It's a killer time!!!!

Hey silver, Let me know if you want to go! Maybe we could trailer them together or go crazy and go for the 8 hour ride (From Mpls) to the Black hills, been there a few times and their ARE some awesome roads out there! Let me know what you think.

Big, so far you would win the Iron Butt Ninja 12 trophy if you did the drive and still were able to ride (and have fun).....

Call me a pussy, but I'm trailering if we get this all going....

If we do get this thing going, I will personally take care of the Iron Butt Ninja 12 trophy for the guy/gal that rides the farthest (on the 12) to get to the rally. I, will NOT be winning that trophy !!! Land Rover + trailer = Happy Blitz....

P.S. - winner will have to provide gas receipts and photos. Bugs must be prevalent on leathers and shield....LOL

Blitz...sorry I didn't answer before - definately a "brain wired" ride for me too. I love to have fun & go fast - in fact I'd ride around on my friggin back tire with the front haggin big air all the time if I could. But there's a little fact of reality for me - I like life! I'm sure we'll do some massive wheelies, hit some high speeds & do some cool corners - just don't need anyone going home in the "Big Black Zip-lock bag" if you know what I mean.

I agree on your big black zip lock bag statement Cookin, I'm looking at about 800 miles of tire wear getting there and don't plan on coming home in a casket! You mentioned later in May or early June have anything particular in mind?

Yep, we hit Devils Tower as part of the family motorhome vacation last July. First time I saw it in person. We camped at the base (in the campgound). Devils Tower is really something every human should see. Truly awesome....

I'm really open to anytime - I just need to plan a couple months in advance...I travel tons for work!

The trip I did last year was cool but we could get a little more creative and plan a cool route...

Where are all you guys from? Silver your a Canook right? It sounds like some of you guys are close...in Minnesota / Wisconsen?

One other suggestion on dates...the later in May or June we go the better off we will be for temperatures. Early / mid May can still be cool (50 - 60) here. Buy June we should be hitting solid 70-80's.....
