Just got my 02 (sold my 00 couple months ago) and was wondering if the extended breakin still exist like it did for the 00. The book and labels say 0-500 4k and 500-1000 6k but nothing about 1000-2000 9k. I'm assuming it does not b/c they had 2 years to get the doc right - but I learned a long time ago the stupidest question is the one you don't ask. Along those lines what's a BAM.

take it easy on me I'm a newby at this site.

I kept my '02 under 9K until 2K miles, besides this thing has so much power before 9K its not that big of deal. I believe in breakin carefully with moderate rpm, will last longer in the end. As far as the BAM, if you have to ask you wouldn't understand. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

Mooerss...break-in is indeed 1000 miles. Thats a good thing though. That extra 1000 miles SUCKS!!

I break 'em in just like I'm going to ride them...always
have...just no synthetic for the first 2000 miles.

I've done this with over 30 bikes...no problems ever.

With 60 miles on it I was hitting the rev limiter...

Jere...you're a nut <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

My opinion on break-ins is it is as much for the rider as the bike. You already know what to expect as far as the power goes.

I pretty much stuck to the break in till around 800 miles.
I would just occasionally take it up to 8k-9k or so <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=""> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT="">
