heard about clutch before purchase, but didn't waiver my decision to but this bad mo fo. started sounding goofy right off the bat. metioned it to dealer at 500 mile and service mgr. said this was normal for all bikes (bullshit- this is definately not my first or last bike!) got worse up to 4000 and he then said it was probably abuse(same old line we all have heard!) then i discovered this unbelievable site. went back to deal to order shield holder for my arai that got ripped off going 180mph yeah buddy!!!! talked to service mgr again and told him about this site and that there were many people complaining of same problem and that some were getting this problem resolved through warranty. said he'd call, but thought he was lying! he did call. and now kawasaki is going to do and one time only modification to clutch and probably replace all plates for free. also thanks all for providing great maps i'm a cheap bastard and this site has saved me from muzzy clutch fix (for now at least got a rebuilt one at 5500 miles) and no dyno/hour fees at local shop for map set-up! keep info highway flowing and we'll all contribute to the evolution of the baddest bike on the planet!! don't be stupid out there people , WATCH YOUR ASS, bring'em back a ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mad Freak... I have been having problems with my clutch.. I have a 2000 ZX12 and I got it back from the shop because I didn't have a clutch a few weeks back... The nut that holds the hub on backed off and was moving.... The clutch was slipping really bad before it want out completely... After getting it back my clutch is still slipping in 2nd gear when I try to pop it up.. It will start slipping and slowly raise up when it use to just come up quickly... I'm wondering if I should go back to my dealer and bitch because of the hub loosening and could have been damaged the plates and have them replace them.....

is there free play at both cable ends? after that I'd pull the stack and check for warped and burned steels. I hope they oiled the plates and steels up nicely before they put the stack back in.

Hey dude if they did it under warranty they should have replaced steels and frictions, a good shop would have done both warranty does not cost them. If the steels are ok then they likely could have given them to you for spares. Depends on the shop I guess. Just my 2 cents.. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

Mad Freak..... When you said the kawi was going to do an one time only modification to clutch.. What did they do?? Just curious because the dealer is going to drill my hub out and replace the clutch plates and steels and replace the springs with the ZX9R springs.... That's pretty funny because I just ordered the Muzzy clutch kit... Don't know if I should trust them to drill that hub out... I asked him if it was going to weaken it and of course he said no but I have read about this problem from other people on here and they say just get the kit.... Could you give me some input on how everything is working out on your after the mod.... Later...
