D&D Slipon and install ?

After reading many of the posts here I have decided to go with the D&D slipon. I know it's not as good probably as the Akro, and it seems to certainly be loud, but it is cost conservative. My main concerns are: Should I go with carbon fiber, alum, or TI ??? My gut says stay with the TI as I like its looks from the stock can, BUT the carbon looks good too and does it save weight???

I assume that there is NOTHING needed as far as the engine goes. It will run properly (i.e. not too lean/rich)??? Also, can I make this mod myself (I am decent mechanically, especially if it has wires) ? Looking front to back to the stock can, there are 4 bolts to remove and the foot peg attachment??? That's it?

Agreed about the whole board concept. Having been on and off this board since it's inception and also Labusas for three years and ZX-12rZone since it's inception and Jereon's board before all of them. I have witness many a people giving bad advice to which they are normally shot down by a more experienced or knowledgeable member. As in anything else you need to pick apart the info to find what's going to work for you. I would never tell anyone they MUST do something to their bike unless it truely concerned a saftely matter. I have been amazed at some of the things newbies have asked to do or thought about doing, and amazed that some of these people are actually riding a bike like the 12 when they are utterly clueless about motorcycles. But like I've said many times before, it's a free country. I have never ever lied to anyone on any board, all I have done is try to pass the knowledge I have learned about the 12 over the years and 17,000+ miles I have put on my 12. We, myself and many others, have thrashed these topics til we were blue in the face and eventually came up with what works best for MOST 12's or riders, and again, everyone is different.

As far as the Cat is concerned, I still maintain that if you are planning to keep the stock can or buy just a slip on, it just plain makes sense to cut the Cat out. It is a very restrictive piece that generates a TON of heat, many have said a gain of 1-2 horsepower, maybe so, maybe not but if you look at the example of spending $750+ on a full sytem to get maybe 10-17 horsepower, why wouldn't you go for 1-2 more for free? As well as having a happier, freer reving motor? It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to cut the cat out.

Anyway ninjabob, I think we are all on the same page in trying to learn more and help as many people as we can. What I will assure you, and I mean guarantee you is that if you see a reply from me to another members question it is only because I have experience in it and truly know the results, or I know it from another member whom I trust implicitly. No need to steer anyone wrong. You can ask just about anyone on this board or ZX-12rzone or labusas (even the dark side) about me and they will tell you the same. As a side note though, I have been known to sling a little shit too, in the interest of entertainment of course. lol

PEACE

Why did you switch from your D&D to Yosh? Why would you change a slip-on with a slip-on? Was there a problem or was it too loud for you?

I got rear-ended at a stop lite and the Yosh was damaged. I liked the Yosh pipe and had intended to replace it. I ordered it direct from Yosh over the web...waiting a couple of weeks, no pipe. When I called them they told me it would be another 4 to 6 weeks. I said forget it. They could have called or emailed.. anyway D&D had it in stock, I liked the way it looked and I had heard it sounded great. So there it is. I do like the sound better than the Yosh, it's deepter and throatier, but I wish it were quieter.

And....Looks good on my Mystic Pearl black

Hope that helps

It's very loud. I had a harley with straight pipes. It's not that loud, but you'll get their attention. I haven't heard another in-line 4 as loud.

I've heard the D&D's are loud, haven't actually HEARD one on a 12 before though. I considered all the full systems but after talking to just about everyone on all the boards decided on the Yosh RS-3 race system cause the 4-2-1 appears to maintain the midrange grunt better than the 4-1's and because I take a lot of long trips didn't need a Muzzy screaching in my ear or anything really loud. The Yosh has a beautiful baritone sound while doing 90 in 6th not annoying at all and yet when your near redline it just screams.

Anyway, many who really like the loud stuff go with the D&D and I also hear they make strong power with great weight savings, is this true?

Now you all have dun gone and got me be a worried! I want throaty, deep and loud but, I don't want to break glass or get thrown out of my development cuz when I take the early weekend rides I rattle windoze for miles... If this turns out to be way too loud, see mine up on EBAY for 1/2 price. OK, somebody with the D&D catch us a wav sound file so some of us that are trying to resolve this can!!! 8=)

Otis, the D&D slip on is smaller and lighter than the Yosh, as far as power, I can't tell any difference between stock, yosh or D&D.

I haven't seen a Yosh slip on before Bob. Did you take any pics of one? Here is my Full Yosh system, Stainless Headers and Ti can.

Otis i agree removing cat would lower temp's. But i live out in the boonie's and i seldom ride city traffic. I mainly run twistie two lane's with small one light town's along the way.

If i were in the city. Removing the cat would be a good ideal. To reduce heat at stoplight's.

By the way Otis, What's the DarkSide Am i missing some good ole fashioned ******* rowdy fun?

This is the Bike talk section of www.labusas.org, there is a 12 side there too but it's referred to as the Library. The dark side is filled with great people but brutal threads, porn, death threats sometimes, if you don't have thick skin it may not be the board for you.

Well I just got mine and here's my opinion! You cant keep this pipe quite! Not even in 6th gear at 2000 Rpm. I'm getting some very dirty looks from the police and I think its only a matter of time until I get a ticket and am told to take it off.

On the other hand....

It sounds sooo dam good after you rev past 6ooo Rpm. It turns all the attention on you! No it's not as loud as a Harley with open headers but its close and a totally different sound.

If you do touring alot on your 12 this pipe IS NOT THE PIPE FOR YOU!!! The slow drown it makes when your going the same speed is a little annoying. But when you fluctuate within the rev range its nothing short of AWESOME!!

I love the pipe but the loudness is IMPOSSIBLE to hide. I actually pull in the clutch and try to coast by police cars
