While riding home after a great afternoon at the track with Mad Mal and Chris, I had an UGLY encounter with a mule deer. I was rolling along, minding my own business and a deer TRIED to cross the road in front of me........she didn't make it. I hit her right in the shoulder at about 45 mph, which really sucked needless to say!
The result: lots of broken plastic, 1 toasted Micron pipe, a bent rear set, bent fairing stays, right side frame sliders ground down to nothing, and who knows what else I haven't discovered yet. My helmet, jacket, and pants are trashed as well. I got a little rash on the left arm and knee, and it seems like I might have a broken rib or two, can;tell for sure yet though.
Bottom line......I would be MAJORLY screwed up had I not been wearing all my gear, it may be trashed but it did it's job. Many thanks to Blitz and Chris for coming to retrieve me bike and bring it home.

Talk to you all later when I hurt a little less.............. ride safe and wear your gear!!!

I am surprised you hobbled away from it, seeing the damage to the bike, and the blood from the deer.

Amen on the riding gear. You would probably have been going out on a stretcher without the gear, and on a gurney without the helmet.

I'm just glad you are alive, brother....

Glad you're ok though! Gear saves! Gear saves! Gear saves! Gear saves! etc. Let us know what we can do to help. Too bad those deer whistles that came out a few years ago don't work. Repeat: "I survived". Heal quickly!

You walked away, That's what count's. Glad your OK.

That's the one and only reason I went with a D&D slip-on. I'm in a deer rich area. And since I put the D&D on, I've only seen one critter in the road and that was last night on the way to work. A Saint Bernard, Was getting off the road as I was comming up to the dog. The D&D work's for what I need. To keep critter's outta my way.

Get well soon,

If Jessie Jame's had a ZX12R I'd ride with him.

Denver, sorry about the bike but the main thing is you're ok. Heal up quick.

So, did you leave 1/2 a deer?

Morning fellas,
Thanks for all the kind words, it helps alot. As far as the deer goes, I hit her right in the shoulder blade at about 45 mph, so she didn't make it. The impact was so severe that there is deer hair imbedded in the fairings in several places. The good thing though is that the sheriffs deputies were able to contact a game warden and the meat has been donated to a charity in the area. I think that's great, but I'll do my charity work differently next time!
I'm to sore to screw with the bike today I think, but so far there doesn't seem to be any "structural" damage, no way to be sure until I disassemlble it though. Maybe I'll tinker on it a little after I get back from seeing the doc. I'll see if can borrow a digital camera and post some pics in the next couple of days.
Hitting a deer on the bike in the middle of nowhere has always been my biggest fear, and let me tell you.....IT SUCKS. It was like hitting a brick wall and it happened so fast I never ever had a chance to swerve or brake or utter a four letter word!
I'll rebuild the bike over the winter, and certainly in time for the black hills run next year. The fiance' is pretty shook up, so now is not the time to ask for a new bike!! Rest assured though......I WILL RIDE AGAIN and I'll have new leathers, helmet, boots and gloves!!!
Being that I can't go riding and am sore as hell I'll probably be on here a bit more than normal the next few days. I got some post whoring to do!!!!

It is amazing how many deer accidents have have happened this year! Quite a few members of this board have been inconvenienced by this, to say the least. Because i live in south florida, I guess i never even thought about that happening (not too many deer here in Pompano Beach, except maybe for a couple of strippers named "Bambi). I think that maybe a LOT more people should take up deer hunting in the very near future, and thin down the deer popluation considerably! Of course, all the bleeding heart animal lovers and P.E.T.A. would raise a commontion, but all they have to do is look at that dude that lost a leg due to a deer running into his bike and maybe they'd see the point. I'm beginning to seriously hate deer! Venison anyone?
