Went to Matthews Fun Machines today where there was one of these trailers with a dyno. It was a Dynojet 168.They were offering free dyno runs to everyone. We registered and had a chance to watch a few bikes run.
Some I saw were:

GSXR-600 90 hp <<< (Appeared Stock)
RC-51 122 hp <<< (Pipes, PC111, Intake Mods, Etc)

Some cruisers and others at less than 100 hp.

I had never had any of my vehicles dyno'ed so I was not sure what to expect. And they were just pulling them in, two small straps, and letting them rip. No rpm readout, just speed and hp.

The 02 PMB with the Full Muzzy SS and Carbon Oval with PC111r and Muzzy map, on this dyno, made...159.9 HP and
was indicated at 145 mph in 4th gear with 17/47 gearing.

Seemed low to me, a fellow rider with previous dyno run was about 9 hp lower than his run a few months back.

It was a Dynojet 168 Mobile "Go-Kart" , I don't know that much about the different types of dynos, but hey, it was free

Here's a few pics.....

Personally, I pretty much consider dynoing on the same dyno and under similar weather conditions great for baselining and doing mods, but thats where it ends.

You could put your bike to 3 different dynos on the same day and have an 8-10 hp variance either way.

With that being said, if you take into account a vehicles hp reading on a given dyno as being from a "happy" dyno, and down the numbers from there, and they are still big hp or torque, you are probably looking at a very stout motor.

Case in point here on the site would be BigSaints truck. 450 hp, lets say it was a happy dyno, he was really making 420 hp. Those are still very big hp numbers, happy dyno or sad.

What I would like to see is 12's with varying mods dynoed on the same machine one right after another.

Check out this article, its pretty good.

Thats how I feel too. It was a free run, that was the main reason to do it

There was an 01 zx12 right behind me. His pulled 170.
So 10 hp more than me. The curve looked about the same with mine pulling a little steeper and then flat.

The differences are he had a custom map built for his,
plus K & N filters, and kleen air removed, which may account for the extra 10 hp.
Or could have it been his full Akro system

It was fun anyways, and free

I found this most interesting:
his 17/46 was 148 mph in 4th
my 17/47 was 145 mph in 4th

Dyno guy was impressed with the speed

That's why I'll only dyno on the same Dynojet at the same shop. I'd go as far as to try to pick the same outside ambient air temp., elevation above sea level and humidity levels as well, makes a difference with the diesels.

Dyno results are best used as a baseline, as IWasBlitz stated. The best thing you can do is to dyno bone stock and then go back to the same dyno after you have made some mods. Not looking at the total RWHP # but the increase in the RWHP #.

That brings about my next question, are all the bikes dyno'd the same way, i.e., 4th gear as mwrzx12's was done ? With the trucks, we gently row through the gears until you are in top (6th) for me, then we coast down to real low rpm's , around 1200 or so, signal the operator to start recording and then put it to the floor and hold it until we reach the rpm cut out, which is about 3600 rpms. The dyno's place a simulated 5,000 lb. load on the wheels and this allows us to make the engine work to produce the highest numbers.

Curious on how you run them with a bike ?

Saint, on this mobile dyno, they were doing all the bikes in 4th gear. He used the exact same procedure on every one I watched him do. He was very consitent. No problems with how he was runing the show.

And I agree about how dyno numbers should be used.
I did not baseline mine, so I have nothing to compare too.

The bike is a beast, no matter what any dyno says

Hey Saint, I hit my rev limiter finishing out a "minger" today,
how high you revved yours lately????..........Just kidding

CR, I was watching and listening very closely to my bike when he ran it. They did not get an RPM reading, he was looking at the tach. He may have got close to indicated redline, but my limiter kicks in when the tach indicates 12,500 rpm. Peak HP would be before that anyways, but thought I would mention it.
He did not go there......

Hey we also got free food (if ya wanted a hot dog) free drinks,
a free t-shirt, and talked to motorcycle guys....

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, a sweet looking faster Silver 01 and an 02 PMB. Looks an awful lot like my ride today.

We did a little "testing" today too now that WD also has 17t on.

01 faster Silver made more hp than 02 PMB.

01 faster Silver won three 2nd gear roll ons with an 02 PMB.

I'm sensing a trend.

01 Silvers Rule!

Blitz...Thanks for the link....Here's a quote from the article...

Quote:
It doesn't really matter that much
Finally, when we go to get our cars "dyno'd", we're asking someone to measure the power at the wheels. The power losses between the engine and wheels is different for every model of car, and not very well know at that. The dyno's built in the US are probably designed to be within a few percent of a calibrated standard, and are probably stating output in SAE horsepower. The way the car is setup, and the skill of the operator in calibrating the machine, as well as operating the machine, all contribute to inaccuracy. However, the purpose of these tests isn't to know the absolute value of the power at the wheels, but to know when we've made a modification that improves the power in our target operating range.
