Hi

I got an issue that is driving me crazy on my ZX12R from 2003....

Went for a ride last Saturday and when i giving some gas, when the bike got to 8000 rpm it didn't pass from it for some seconds....after a few seconds it kicked in and it went from 8000 rpm to 11 rpm.... it felt like there was a turbo kicking in.... went to do a 2 try, and it did the same at 9000 rpm, stayed there for a few seconds and than went to 12 rpm....

Can it be from the gas filter ? I don't think its the clutch, cause it does only on high speed....

I have changed the spark´s, i have K&N air filters... The oil is Motul 7100 full synthetic.

Can anyone help me out?:banghead:

Thanks

Always check the battery and connections... then check your stator plug under the rear seat.
I had the exact same issue and the plug was fried - they burn up - oil travels up the wires into the plug and burns the plug.
I checked plugs and wires, had a friend check the fuel pump and delivery...all good. He pulled the stator plug and fixed it - full power restored.

Stator plug failure is pretty common, lots to read here:

Sounds like fuel filter is clogged. Pull your pump assembly and remove the black filter housing. Back flush it with carb cleaner or something similar then compressed air. Put it back together and it pulls to redline then you found your culprit. This will only be a temporary fix and it will clog up again. You will need to get a new filter or an entire assembly. I read somewhere that the first gen busa with internal pump has a similar filter and you can purchase just the filter from Suzuki. Kawasaki doesn't offer a replacement filter they make you buy the whole unit for something like $500. I am quite certain this is your problem.

If the fuel filter is the problem then that pump won't help. I have never heard of a full on fuel pump failure in the 12. What happens with the B models is the filter clogs and they don't offer a replacement. I guess it's Kawasaki's way of getting more $. The A models don't suffer from this design flaw. The B model has the fuel pressure regulator built in to the in tank filter more like a relief valve. Too much pressure and it opens and spills back into the tank. The A model has a fuel pressure regulator at the fuel rail with a return line back to the tank so they have a replaceable filter.

THIS.

Before you go buying a new pump, check this plug first.

Good to hear you got it sorted. This is just a temporary fix it will clog again I know this from experience. You will need to replace that filter with a good one or use submersible fuel line to bypass it and run a filter outside the tank. If you bypass it you will need about 18" of line, a T fitting and 6 hose clamps. You need to reuse the pressure valve that is at the top of the filter and attach it to the T fitting. Good luck hope you find a permanent fix.
