I rode the 12 to work today as usual. no problems at all... Got in at about 0810 didn't take a lunch and left at 1645. I got on her to have what I thought a nice ride home and the I got to the end of the parking lot and the damn thing wouldn't speed up I almost friggin redlined it to get up to 30mph.. I pulled over and tooled around with it for a min and couldn't find anything loose.. That about exhausted my Mechanical Motorcycle knowledge . I turned the hazards on and putt-putted home. At a red light I figured I would see what would happen if I popped the clutch open let it go and the damn thing didn't cut off and barely moved (with minimum brake)... I think I found the problem.... I finally made it home called the dealership and they said it wasn't covered under warrantee and it would cost me around $500 to replace. So I called Otis he confirmed it was the clutch said if I need his help replacing it he was there for me and to let him know. Tomorrow I have to get the 12 to the dealership so they can find out the exact problem the Wifey is ready to go up there and bite off some heads because they want to charge me labor to look at it ($68 per hr) after I talk to the shop owner tomorrow I will keep you guys posted...

Right now I am ready to get rid of the 12... Almost one year only 1750 miles (I get out when I can) never dragged taken to a track and only raced one other bike (a busa and won) never done a wheelie or stoppie on the bike and never abused her... SO why would the clutch fail so soon? Something needs to be done about this damn clutch..

time to remove all doubts

dear sir
we at kawasaki would dearly love to warranty your clutch, you have obviously not abused said clutch, and you havent exceeded your miles covered by our warranty. our only excuse not to cover this clutch left to us is to say "you haven't ridden your bike enough!"

when we sold you this bike we though you were going to ride it, abuse it, wheelie it, stoppie it, thats what we built it for. unfortunately you have failed to give your machine its proper exercise, resulting in the failure you are experiencing.

wouldn't suprise me if they actually told you that. i don't understand why they wouldn't warranty it, it ain't even broke in hardly yet. sounds like you got my kind of luck.

hope things get better.

Damn buddy that sucks. The 00-01 have had a lot of clutch problems, but 1750 miles, riding the way you do, your clutch should not have failed.

If it is indeed the clutch, I would not go back stock. It is time to upgrade

If you were anywhere close to me I would be glad to help you repair/replace. Maybe someone close can help you out

Raise enough hell at the dealership till you get some attention..

Lets look at this diplomatically and objectively:

You rode the bike to work, it was fine,

You've never abused the bike and more specifically the clutch.

You left from work, and BAM, the clutch is shot?

Something is missing here.

YNOT it's hard to believe the clutch failed with 1700 mile's, I had an 01 with 7500 and wrung it's neck every Saturday. The clutch also give ya warning that's it's going.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure it out.

Maybe the kickstand sensor, Let me check something out and I'll check back,

If Jessie Jame's had a ZX12R I'd ride with him.

but remember about a week ago, mine would barely go,
A rock had wedged itself between the rear brake lever and the frame holding the rear brake in the down, full on position.
I let the clutch out to go and she did not want to.
I pulled over and could smell the hot brake, then I found the rock.....

This probally is not what is happening here, but you never know... I had never had it happen to me either until that day.

Just trying to think of some things...

Was the clutch adjusted properly???

Have you ever adjusted it???

When the switch is closed is when stand is up. juice on both end's of switch,

If you have an ohm meter with bike running check wire's going to switch and you should have continuity above zero ohm's with kickstand up.

If Jessie Jame's had a ZX12R I'd ride with him.

I'm still looking. But I bet it's the sidestand switch. ran good when you parked it and you got back on and it ran like crap.

The ECU also has a fuse, This may cause it also. I'm trying to figure out if bike will run with fuse to ECU blown.

If Jessie Jame's had a ZX12R I'd ride with him.
