Hi All, hoping someone can help. I’ve done a fair bit of work on my 2002 ZX12R over the last few months some of which required the fuel tank taking off. Now the bike is all back together I’ve noticed I can hear what sounds like fuel running back into the tank when I turn it off. I never noticed this before and not sure if it’s normal or not, the bike seems to be running fine. If someone could confirm if this is okay and if not what might be causing it I’d really appreciate it, thanks BigPJ

Can you post a video so we can hear it?
I believe the 02 and up dead head the fuel line.
No return to the tank like the 00-01.
Is it the fuel pump motor whine or a liquid gas gurgling?

It's one of those things you didn't notice before and now it's suddenly there? Whatever work you did I would back trace. Could be something simple not put back right or coincidentally a part that stopped working as it should.

Thanks for your comments guys. I’ll see if can get a video of it but noise isn’t loud so not sure if it’ll be any help. I’ve been back over where the tank came off and can’t see anything I’ve missed or fitted back wrong. There is a feed and return line under the tank (my bike was registered 2002 but is A model) and I marked them on removal so back in correct places. It is a liquid running noise, just sounds like fluid dribbling and definitely coming from low down on tank under seat.

The return line connects to a “one way” valve.
I believe kzscott has put 30psi of air pressure to activate it. Maybe it is dirty or corroded in some way. With the tank off, you will be able to take it out and clean it. If you pull the return line and it does not leak, then it is probably fine.

As was mentioned, are all the vents clear?

Thanks, do you know where I’d find the valve and what it looks like?

Where about it Staffordshire are you?, is it not cooland you can hear ?
This is a good call too. The overflow feed is down low and the thermostat as well is down low. Nice one Mauser.

The return line is attached to the valve on the bottom of the tank.

I’m near Cannock, fairly certain it’s coming from fuel tank not coolant but will double check over weekend, thanks again for help
