HINDLE: LACK OF Customer Service

As you know, my dyno run with the Hindle stepped header revealed a rich condition (bottom of the F/A graph) at 9000 rpm.

Yesterday, Monday 8/12, I emailed Hindle and requested a map for my '02. Assuming they spent a lot of dyno time engineering the pipe, I think it's reasonable for them to provide me with a map.

As of today 8/13, I haven't heard from them. I thought that this may be of interest to the forum, so I will keep you apprised of how things turn out.......after the sale.

Thanks Jim. I have been following Mr Hill's Hindle tuning thread with great interest. However, he has a prior year model and I suspect that his thread may not be applicable to my 2002.

I confess I am computer, fuel injection and Power Commander challenged. I have experience with jets.....mains, pilots, needles and clips, emulsifier tubes, air and fuel screws, etc, but this is my first injected motorcycle. Heck, my Bandit was 1980s air/oil technology!

A quick reply from Dynojet:

"Dave,
Hindle has yet to submit that pipe for testing. As soon as one arrives will will design a map for it.
Regards."

Dave , why don't you try the akra map for the 02 at dynojet, just to see how it feels. Why can't you use a 01 map ?

I am using the 02 akro map until a map is made, so hindle has to give dynojet a pipe hmmm. I guess we will not be getting a map any time soon. I ran 9.79 @ 142 with the 02 akro map it works pretty good but its not the right map.

ZX Jim comments, "Dave , why don't you try the akra map for the 02 at dynojet, just to see how it feels. Why can't you use a 01 map ?"

Jim, I don't have a driveability issue over 3 grand. The bike runs fine. Consequently, just trying a map on the seat-of-the-pants dyno will not help me.

Perhaps the '00/01 maps will work, but I don't know. The 2002 has a different stock map than prior years.

BTW, I would like to add that KINGZX Wayne emailed me and kindly offered to send me a couple maps for the '00/01 bikes. Thanks, Wayne.

Steve,

I know you are kicking some butt over there on the Island. I check up on you.

Pivotal question: how does the Akro map look on the dyno?

Dave

I think the reason the 02 maps are different is because the throttle cable
pulley is different. 10% throttle on a 00/01 is not the same as 10% throttle
on an 02.

Stupid hurts.

Yeah, thats what I'd heard too. The '02 has a "cammed" pully to ease off idle response....

G
Tenn12 I think 10% is 10% , so if the tps is the same part number it should work just fine.

I am glad someone thinks so, when I get the extensions from gixx1300r next week and the duel stage NOS I hope to be #1 or #2 in town.

I received this email from Hindle Info today:

"Hello Dave,
Hindle designs thier systems with the motorcycle in stock condition, and does not perform mapping changes here. I will, however, forward your email to Lee Hindle to see if he has access to a map for you. Please contact Dynojet for your mapping needs.
Jen Sharrard"

Now I admit to being ignorant of how motorcycle performance exhaust systems are designed and developed, however find it hard to believe that when they put a pipe on the dynamometer they don't experiment will fuel mixtures. Is this credible?

Gentlemen, your comments?

You need to stop over at the LaBusas site and talk to Vincent Hill , I think he has more dyno time than anyone with the stepped pipe.

There is no point in just plugging in just any map to your PCIII. You will probably make the bike run worse. Either run a zero map or run the map that is designed for your pipe. The only way to tune it is to either get an air/fuel sensor or take it to a dyno. There are no shortcuts to tuning the bike.

I have to agree with Workman..
One of the downsides with the Hindle is the very small amount of "Free" MAPS available for the system.. I must admit it is kine of Strange that you can't get a MAP from Hindle, but I guess this was not one of their priorities..
I'm sure that you know what you should really do.. have a MAP made specifically for your bike..Sure it is not cheap, but neither was the bike nor the Hindle.. You are comparing apples to oranges when you look at MAPS for systems other than Hindle..
One thought would be to see if VincentHill would share his MAP with you.. Who knows, you might get lucky...

simply download the akro maps for the 00-01 & the 02.
open the dynojet software twice
load the oo-o1 akro map in one
load th e 02 akro map in the other

compair/note the differences side by side between the two maps...this will provide a reference point.
Note every cell difference adding or subtracting

Take king12's 00-01 map & make the additions or subtractions to each cell in the map based on the differences gathered from the akro maps.

Not a perfect solution, but should get you close.

What exactly is the "zero" map. I have an Akra full system, and a yosh EMS that I am reasonably sure was designed for the yosh full system...just wondering. btw, the bike runs great with that zero map.

Thats why I will only buy a muzzy or akra, at least you get a good starting point.

more developed systems become available for the 02 models. I also have followed Vicent Hill's excellent advice but none of them have been fine tuned YET!

WAIT!
