Currently riding an ZRX1200 and thinking about a (blue) ZX-12R. What would be considered a good price, and are there any significant changes planned for 03'? Also why is the Blue not lsited as one of the normal colors by Kaw?
I paid $9600.00 plus tax and tags. Maybe not the best price but the dealer is only 10 miles from my house and I wanted a blue ZX, which was hard to find.
I paid 10300, out the door. They said it was the cheapest they ever sold A zx12R for.
I called another dealer which I would have perfered to buy the bike from. They said they could not get close to that price out the door, Since the PMB was the perfered color.
It all depend's on where you live and the supply and demand. I could have drove a couple hundred mile's north and saved a couple hundred dollar's.
sport tourer, and bigsaint:you guys are both from up north.i thought the prices were higher up there?
I think $9,600 for a 02 is a dam good price. If i found a new blue or pmb 02 here in fl for that i'd buy it.
either of you know a good dealer around central-north pa.or south-n.jersey?I'm up there alot.
Theres a dealer here in fla that still has a 00 red, with a $10,999 sticker hanging off it,with$11,900 above the $10.900 and saying $1,000 reduced!
I asked bottom line and no b.s and he said he could not move but a few hundred on it cuz he's had it so long,i almost laughed in his lying face! This moron was new and hardly knew shit about 1/2 the bikes in their after talking to him for a few.
There was a pmb in there for $10,999 and i asked how he could only budge a few hunge on a bike thats almost 2 y.o & that there's a newer one in there for almost the same.
he just shrugged his shoulders and looked stupid.
cheapest i have seen down here for blue or pmb was 10.6ish.
i would definatly buy one up there to save a grand.got any #'s?i was gonna wait for 03 and buy one than, but seeing this i have my doubts.
The $9600 price which I saw was from Michael Andretti Powersports, Phillipsburg, NJ. It was during an "open house" weekend event. However, since its getting later in the season and 03s should be coming out sooner than later, I would think the price still to be valid. I can't vouch for or against them as a dealer on anything though.
BTW, Michael Andretti owns another Honda/Kawaski shop outside Reading, PA.
You may also wish to try Montgomeryville Cycle Center, Montgomeryville, PA. A MC bike supermarket if there ever was one. At this store, the price shown on the bike is what you pay....no dicking around and if you want to dick around, it will be the same price. Am not thrilled about the way the handled a warranty issue with me with on my TLR, but if you want no haggle pricing, this is the place.
Bottom line is you gotta figure the dealer cost on most motorcycles is about 13-15% less than the MSRP. Add to that value what u think the dealer should earn to stay in business (maybe $200- $300) and walllah....you got a fair price. The 13-15% value has been accurate for my years upon years of bike buying on almost every motorcycle. If the bike is a leftover, take at least $900 off for the first year (from the above price).
My free advice......although motorcycle and ATV sales have been quite good as of late (ATVs especially), given the state of the overall economy and the stock market (and it aint gonna be getting any better for quite a while....trust me), dealers will be looking to blowout these things in the near future. Cash is king at this stage of the game..either that or precious metals. Any debt a company or person has is gonna be like an albatross around their neck in the coming future. Need to finance it....forget it. If you cant pay cash, dont buy it. As always, the real deals on 02s will be had mid October and November as most riders are fair weather riders.
Best of luck in your hunt.
An idea for you.....start calling around other states or inquire on line. If you get an excelllent deal, make it a vacation and buy the bike there and ride/haul it home. Wish I woulda bought my Gold Wing that way years ago.
You welcome to an overnighter at my home if you need to conduct a "trip".
