If you read my post about moving the site to another Host, I have a few options to play with.

I was thinking that I could offer 300MB of space with about 2GB of transfer per month for about $10 U.S. per month.

I may be able to do smaller or larger sites depending on what people are interested in. I would need a reasonable committment for time ie. 6mths to a year.

That way you will never have red X's when you want to store pics.

Let me know what you think and whether it is worth while.

This would be your own website essentially so you could do anything you wanted with it (except porn) most Hosts will chop the service. But just the odd nude pic amongst bikes and stuff is OK, LOL.

Depending on how it works you could just dump the pic to the site and link to that image or create a website so you can view them from your site.

If anyone needs help with their website or with sample code I can always help out.

It is just frustrating that imagestation and all these other pic services won't let you link the pic to other sites.

If anyone has some pic hosting software that I can setup email me and we can get that going for people who just want to store pics and are not comfortable with websites.

thanks,

If any of you subscribe to an ISP instead of AOL or MSN, chances are you already have a place where you could store photos and the like.

Most ISPs give you 20MB or so of space on their computers. If you can log into their computers using Telnet, then you definitely have it. Telnet into your acount and type "quota" at the prompt. It will tell you how much space you have left on your acount. 1 block is about 1KB.

To make a web page you can link to, create a directory called public_html by running the command "mkdir public_html". Now you can FTP your files into that folder and link to them as though they are on a website.

If you put a file called picture.jpg in your directory, your address will look something like this:

http://www.providersname.com/~username/picture.jpg

Just make sure that you run a "chmod 755 file.name" on the public_html directory and any of the files contained in it to make it accessable to anyone on the net. Hope that helps some of you!

easy

I'd be interested, providing no proprietary software is necessary to update content. For example, FTP should be okay, not some crappy browser app or M$ Web Publishing. Could you elaborate on the server setup?

Just FTP would be available for sure.

There may be an option for other people that are not comfortable with FTP.

100 Meg is not problem, it is the bandwidth that I have to be careful with. I need to save as much bandwidth as possible. I would also like to potentially move the forum to the server with vbulletin software or something like that when the EZboard renewal comes up. I am pretty sure EZboard is going to cost a fortune to renew this time, they rate the price on traffic. But that is a good thing.
