I signed up to this site so I can learn more about my motorcycle. I have a 2000 zx12r. does anyone know of any good places to go to learn about this motorcycle? I have the owners manual but I'm not very mechanically inclined, yet. I'm hoping to learn how to do a lot to maintain and take care of my bike myself.

Thanks very much.

Welcome aboard! And congrats on the 12, it's one kickass machine... There's a Wealth of info on here, I'm in my 1st season with a 12R so I won't be to much help but there's guys on here that know literally every nut an bolt on the bike. Takes a little bit to get a response but there's nothing u can't find out on here about a 12. Good luck with it! And post some pics of it when u can. Always cool to see new bikes on here...

You picked a helluva machine to become mechanically inclined on... It will not only make you good at it, but it will make you appreciate working on other machines that much more.

There ain't much not covered somewhere on this site already for the 12. If you can't find the info you need in a search, drop a line and ask, and one of us will give you some advice.

The zx12r is not the easiest bike to work on but once you get your head around the minds of the designer its not too bad, I advise getting a good toolkit, if you need something special in the way of tools don't bodge it buy the proper good quality tool and do it properly, you will need a manual both hard and pdf copy, if you are having trouble with something walk away and come back to it, its amazing what a day thinking about it can do. don't be afraid to ask. enjoy your bike and ride safe..this is a fast bike so safety first, in other words be sure to connect you brain to the throttle.

Unfortunately my brains to connected to my throttle, it's constantly telling it WOT gogogo lol... Since you mentioned a hard copy of the manual ontop of the pdf files to be had here (someone was nice enough to send it to me, thanks again for that!!) do u know where to get a hard copy of a repair manual for a b model 12R? All my attempts at locating one have failed.

When I need to work on any of my vehicles that I do actually have the manual, I simply print out the pages I need. This way I can get my dirty mitts on them, and simply toss them when I am done. Unless the manual is laminated (every page), I doubt it would last very long.

My biggest problem is actually finding what I need to, and understanding the writeup...

I just find it easier to have the manual to flip through plus I fucking hate computers (except for here, porn, and ordering parts) so find It easier to find what I need with a good old fashioned manual in my hands, but the pdf file works ok. Either way the 12 is a real bitch to work on, most sport bikes are but this one especially. But Also is the most rewarding to own an ride!
