Do these jet kits work on a stock exhuast or is it just for aftermarket 4-1 systems?

They will work with a stock exhaust as well.

I purchased this kit for a 98 ZX9 and it rocks with a Muzzy pipe. I also purchased Muzzy's kit which is made by Factory and there is no comparison between the two kits, the Muzzy kit feels anemic compared to the Ivans kit.

Question: What is the effect of NOT removing the pressed in pilot air jet per the instructions? I have a friend that wants to install the kit but keep his carbs "stock" for the time being.

Ivan,

Are your kits designed to be used with a K&N filter, or are further mods needed if not using the stock filter? I have the Akra and K&N, and have heard great things about your kit. Also, are any special tools necessary? Thanks.

If you eliminate that step......you will not take care of the on/off throttle problem........

If your friend saves the old press in jets.....they can be re-installed later.....just clean them, install the removal screw and tap them back into place.....

(I don't know why you would want them in there ???) <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

For ANY bike with ram-air..... I prefer to use the stock filter (exc. 'busas's).... gauze filters let in too much dirt....besides...there are no gains at all on a ZX9R with a different filter. (if the jet kit was designed properly)

You would need a different main jet at least...possibly a different needle......special tools are included with my kits if they are necessary.

I have spent countless hours with the ZX9........since 1998.....I own 2 of them.....and won't sell either of them.........awesome bike !!

Ivan, now that you mention it relating to the pilot circuit, without giving away your trade secrets, why not just increase the size of the pilot jet? Wouldn't that have the same effect as removing the paj?

Well I'm going to give the Ivan's kit a try. Ordered one yesterday so we'll see how it goes. It's going on a stock exhaust equipped 99 ZX9R. If things work out I'll add a Muzzys exhaust in the near future.

Well Lockhart has the Ivan kits on backorder. I wonder how long that will take. Of course, they failed to mention this when I ordered it and shipped my other things without the kit for a double-whammy on shipping fees. Oh well, I can't complain a whole lot with the privateer sponsorship pricing but I hate waiting.

Order it from Ivan. I called his shop and the kit showed up three days later. can't beat the service. I bought an extra set of carbs for 98-99 for my personal jet/pipe kit comparo, it didn't take too long to figure out that Ivan's is the way to go.

Don't mess with the factory kit unless you want a nice stop gap, plug and play fix. It is easy and simple to install but is in no way even close to the Ivan's kit in terms of performance. The Ivan's kit is not for beginners. You can permanently screw your carbs up if you do not what you are doing.

Got the Ivans kit in and it rocks, I can't believe how much it cleans up the power band. I still have a little tuning to do, I have it advanced to +6 still and I haven't cliped the springs but top end response is good so I may leave them. The on-off problem is deffinatly gone. It was a way easy install I did'nt even take the carbs off the bike. Oh and for who ever asked about the k&n I am still running mine but I will probably buy the stock one because Ivan recomended it but it runs just fine with the k&n. Am am trying to get my buddy to ride my gixxer and roll on against my 9R and I'll let you know the result. I think it will stay with the gixxer for a while but at top I don't think it will on top
