Jet Kit without dyno question

Wednesday, I am having a Kawi/Honda shop install my new Muzzy ti Full Exhaust w/ Carbon canister on a 2000 Zx-9r. I purchased the K&N Jet Kit Stage 1 and Air filter.

I called a local dyno shop and they said it would take 40-50 dyno pulls to complete a jet kit install for $500. I have a 750 hp race car that can be tuned in 5 pulls.

Questions: Can a good mechanic tune my bike without the use of a dyno? If not, why so many pulls to tune a bike compared to a car? Note: I'm wondering if I should hold off the jetting until a get it to a dyno. The Kawi shop doesn't have a dyno.

Lastly, the dyno shop told me that a K&N air filter doesn't work as well as my stock filter for my zx-9r. Is that correct?

Thanks for your time in advance! What a great informational forum.

He's correct on the K&N filter, stay with the stock one, only advantage is that it can be used over and over, and as far as the Dynojet kit save yourself the headache and see if you can return the whole K&N/Dynojet Stage 1 and get a Factory Pro or Ivan's jet kit.

40-50 pulls? That guy is full of it, After you get the kit in you should get a baseline for your A/F ratio and should be able to get it good with only a couple runs on the Dyno. I've never run a Dyno and done all mine by feel and only had to make 3-4 changes, the Factory Pro kits are real close.

You don't need a dyno it just makes adjusting a bit quicker.

I'm with MOTO24 on this one..I have a dyno at workthat i used to jet mine. I have the 1.7 kit from Factorypro. At most on any changethat i have made, I have only made 9 runs. It all depends on the skill of the operator of seeing what it needs and where it needs it. Though, the most important part is making the initial jetting as close as possible...
