I have a question that I'm not sure if it has been clearly covered in this forum.

Are LED Accent Lights legal to have ON while riding? If yes/no, please explain for your state or wherever/whatever you all know about these laws. They are very confusing for some states. Being in Minnesota myself, I know Red and Blue are no-no's while riding, but I have not found any clear restriction/exemption to it here. Some say as long as it's not those 2 colors and the lights themselves aren't visible, it's ok. But reading the statute, it could be interpreted either way, as these types of lights are not defined.

I think it would be good for all to have some of the LEO's who post here/ride explain their experience and knowledge on the legalities of this in their areas and any other input that you can provide.

I have found sketchy rules for my state, so I guess I'll just try it out and see what happens. It's not specific other than no red/blue or any combination thereof or blinking red/blue (for obvious reasons)...

If I'm wrong, I'll either find out on the road or in some other fashion...

I am being told locally here in de/md (usa) area that no red or blue, no flashing and as long as they dont point at the ground they are ok. But that is an I heard from so and so who heard it from so and so and so on. So not for sure, I guess Ill let you know when I get my first ticket since I just installed mine.

I've been rolling around all over here in the cities at night with them glowing and not one look from any fuzz so....

Maybe they are just too busy looking for criminals eh....

I only have 48 in, and that lights the bike up well enough and about 6 feet around it give or take so....I think I'm ok here. It says the same thing on the books from what I've found. No red, blue or flashing or any combination of the above.

Joe Florida Accent LED lights...You can stick them anywhere in the bike. I have 2 on either side in the fairing, two under the front and two under the rear....6 LEDs per strip for 48 total. Is plenty of green...

I'll try to get some pics of it with the lights at night. Its kinda hard to take pics at night with shit cameras tho...

Talk to one of the Delaware Cops at Bike Night last night. He said they are absolutly illegal. How ever he felt that if a cop pulls you over for it "He must have a major stick up his ass". I thought that was great. He said they dont worrie about them at all. Then the coversation continued in to question of were I had mine done cause he wants to do it to his bike as well...lol.

As I've inquired about it, I've found that every state has their own laws about them and how they're enforced so.....it's like helmet laws....if you're going cross country and like the breeze in your hair, better have a helmet with for those states that require them...

Tried to snap a pic of the bike with the lights with my best camera on hand and.........nope.

Can't capture it. Just a black screen with green lights in the darkness.....

I'll give it a go on a night out with they guys and try it under a light pole or something....it does look neat....but I just got junk cameras apparently.

Got my answer last night...at least for my home town....Got pulled over for running with the lights on.......no ticket tho...

I think now I will make it my mission to get a clarification from some higher up for an answer...as the cop says no but the law on the books says yes...in my interpretation...just not red or blue...

Not that it really matters much what I think....but in reflection, the reason the cop gave for why I couldn't run with the lights on is kinda counter productive....

They said I couldn't run them because someone in a car might crash because they were looking at the lights......:headscratch:....Is that not the whole point to having the lights??? Increased visibility....wtf...I don't care if some moron crashes their car because they can't help themselves in the staring dept....but do those electronic billboards not have the same effect?

I would much rather be seen that be NOT seen. Why do I have to be held accountable for someone elses stupidity?

Now I'm DEFINITELY going to dig into this. That was a bullshit excuse for why I can't run my lights....

In DE my understanding is that as long as they aren't blue/red and are not flashing they are good to go. This was told to me by a few guys who run a motorcycle safety course through the DMV here. Haven't looked much into it past that, I just bought an '05 zx12 and plan to put some lights on it soon... so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I talk to a DE state cop who said they are Illigal. But he felt any cop who pulled you over for it had issues. How ever at the last bike night one of the guys was talking about a $45 tix he just got for his lights.

Wow really? That's a damn shame. I can understand not having red/blue or flashing lights... but having the additional lights makes a hard-to-see bike, easier to see. Guess I'll just have to see how long I can get away with it  thanks for the knowledge!
