Kaboom 3 months ago.i`m working on putting in the 0 mile brand new 2003 zx12r engine.I ask my 13 year old 59,000 mile engine to go to 12,000 rpm`s 1 too many times........It did have a slight knock at idle..... i`m sorry mr. engine for killing you...........
The silver thing at the top of the gapping gash is part of the piston squirting out.Half ended up on the header pipes.

Hi scott.
My muzzy billet basket was unhurt thankfully so it will go in the new engine.I still have to split the case for the surprise inside.I hope it did`nt take out my r & d trans. It shifted into all 6 gears on the rear stand before i removed the engine.....Also like you said the timing rotor is the same as the 2003.

This is a excellent testament to the tuffness of the 12. Even though you took care of your bike, it looks awesome, you raced this bike to mid 9s!!! 59k!!!

yes sir and it could have been avoided if I knew that the little knock I had at idle was not piston slap.I hate myself for killing my bike.......

let me dig up my cam pics.... need to move the rotor for your 00 ecu
this was to fit 00 cams into 01-05, you will be doing a similar process.
just make the rotor line up for what the ecu expects to see. doesnt have to be perfect, remember we dont move this "back to the exact spot" when we degree cams to change where we want power

in this rare case(also sight glass) the 00 is the only oddball. unlike the typical 00 and 01 being different from later yrs

dont forget permanent locktight!

look at the last pic, the 00 ecu expects to see the cam in a certain place. with your 03 motor (sam indexing as the 01) the cam will be in a far different location when it gets the signal. that screws up the ecu, the bike wont run right if at all. put the 03 rotor where the 00 ecu expects it to be. its easy to see in the pic as i have the lobes pointed up. those are stock exh cams one just has an adjustable sprocket on it. the notch in the cam is different. get rid of the indexing tab and put the rotor where it should be for the ecu. locktight it there.

I have 13 years of my life invested into this bike.No way in hell I`m gonna let it be raped for parts.I hope it`s running for someone 20 years from now.It might end up with my son.He is 27 now.He rides it sometimes.I was on the back when he was riding my 1991 zx11 in 2000.he was 14.None of his friends believed him.

Maybe and I will agree , but that second cam has a different profile with the lobe without any doubt ? seems to be a lot more sharp on the profile and more peek lift ? Not trying to cause anything but have a good look at the second cam ? maybe it's jut me .. Not trying to put anyone down at all ?:puzzled::thumbup:
