164.7 HORSEPOWER @ 10200 RPM

92.1 FOOT POUNDS @ 7700 RPM

For comparison, they recently tested the mighty Hayabusa at 157 horsepower.

Those numbers are pretty well the same as the 2000/1, however the low and mid range is most likely better on the 2002 before aftermarket mods with a lower top speed.

I am interested in a top speed run on a 2002 with the restriction removed.

Top speed is not one of my priorities. Neither is race course handling. Give me acceleration and good handling on the country roads where my bike lives every Sunday. Did you see the dyno sheet? A nice torque curve for the real world. Whatabike! Bogus Dave

Easy,

I talked to one of the local dealers here in N.C. who happens to be in with the boys at Muzzy. He practically said the exact same thing you did. He did say that the new 02 bike does have a little more top end pull and a smoother power curve but is very restricted to the point that new mods are in order, etc. After hearing all that I went with a new 2001 model and not at all let down, although break in sucks! I think that the numbers are the same on the dyno but the curves are a little smoother,,, just like he said it would be.

Thanks

Tony

Thats more power than any other mag test Ive seen has printed on the 12. Ive never seen over 162HP and that was Motorcyclist. I still realize that that is close but at least its not less than 00 and 01s. Iam happy with my 01 but enjoy seeing improvements on my favorite brand of bike. Iam sure it will be a great bike. Iam waiting for ZX13 or 14 or ZX12 100lbs lighter until then Iam staying with silver beauty grin.

Restricted to the point that new mods are needed? I was wondering myself what that statement meant. One thing seems clear, Kawasaki did not detune the Z for '02. Life is good. Bogus Dave

I'm With you Dave!!!! Top speed is not one of my priorities either, but braggin rights are great, but I'll brag about the fellow 12er's numbers.

Give me acceleration and good handling on the Canyon roads where my bike lives every Sunday. A nice torque curve for the real world. I can't wait to see a 2002 dyno chart. One of you guy's that have an 02 get that bike broke in so we can see the chart. We might want to compare 01 and 02 fuel rail PN#'s We may also want to also check the cam timming on a 02 sevice manual.

Look's like the 02 may be the same as far as engine HP Output. But i'd like to see the torque curve.

We got some thing's to learn from our 02 buddy's here.

There is a dyno chart on Motorcycle Online. A friend sent it to me when the article came out. Perhaps someone on this forum subscribes to Motorcycle Online (now Motorcycle Offline?) and could send us a copy. I do remember that that the torque curve was smooth and dome shaped. There was about 75 foot pounds at 3500 rpm, gradually building up to 92 foot pounds at about 7700 rpm. Peak horsepower was 164.7 at 10200 rpm. Also the A/F ratio graph was about in middle all the way.

My 02 has 2000 miles and I plan to dyno it at about 3000 miles. Depending on how the A/F graph looks, I may try a PC3R if it will improve the power to any significant extent. Bogus Dave

Kevin, that is a good idea. Let me make a suggestion. The dyno I plan to use for a baseline stock reading (and then to retest as I make changes), is in Sarasota. That's about 60 miles south of Tampa on the Interstate. Precision Cycle, about 6 months ago, acquired a Dynojet 250 with the intention of mainly doing FI remaps. One of the mechanics has a 2000 ZX12 and if memory serves, it ran 160 hp. My Bandit pulled 131 hp on that dyno. Let me know when you are coming and we will try to get on the dyno back to back. Saturday afternoons are best for me. Also, I have several friends with Gxer1000s and I will do my best to get one of them there for comparison purposes. Same day, same dyno, same conditions, gives a valid comparison. Keep in touch.

Dave, plan on it soon. I will have done a few mods by then. Will give me an idea if they worked or not. I just did the crankcase mod and I am building the "workman slip on" tomorrow. Other than that, all stock.(17t front spocket). Details to follow on the slip on. Still can't get a pcIII for the "02 model. Talked to Dynojet today, they are still working on it.

I copied the dyno chart to my web site.

I have posted it before. But here it is again.
