Ok i put my downpayment on the last 2000 i can find in Green this week. My friends who have owned (since new) 94 to 97 zx6's have mentioned kawa's "allways" jumping out of 2nd gear or similar. Im getting warned about kawa trannys from just about every rider i talk too. Im pretty new to the sport bike camp as i have been riding older crap for a while. Now im also hearing bad revues about 2000 Feul Injection being "like a switch" on or off...no midpoint. Someone please ease my fears on these issues!

Ignore your friends, once they see you walk all over them talk will cease! IMHO though, the FI can be surging at times when trying to hold steady throttle at certain rpms, nothing that twisting the throttle harder or a PCIIIr won't fix. As for the tranny on kawi's I've yet to have a mechanical problem with one. They can be notchier than some bikes I've ridden but nothing to be scared about. Just respect the beast cuz she'll spit you off fast, if you get too ham fisted too early!

You're gonna love that 12, I'll never forget the first time I was on mine. Some nob in a bitched out Accord was fuckin with me and I opened it up and before I knew it or could look down I was at 110, so effortlessly, like I farted and was gone

So, Silver... when you were propelled forward at the speed of light from your Mega Fart, was there a Blue Flame that shot out of your Ass??? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Hey Silver, your right, put those Accords in their place...

But speaking of Mega Farts, I was walking down the hall the other day and one of them ZX-12 Mega Farts slipped out, you know the Blue Flamer types <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> It propelled me across the room and I crashed through the living room wall.

The moral of this story is closely related to driving a 12. Be careful where you point it, before you pour on the gas.. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Get the 2K12 & take it easy for @ least a couple of weeks. Then slowly start increasing the speeds @ which you ride.

The 12 seems to be going much slower than it really is & that can get you in trouble w/cops & the curves.

(Honesty @ 100-110Mph you feel like your going 70Mph!

When I got about 3,000kms on my green 01 the shifting got smoother and smoother now at 6000kms it is nice and light and very posative,my `89 ZX7 was much notchier throughout the 20,000kms we spent together..does anyone know if the gears are undercut on the `12s???and speaking as an old fart with 35 years of licenced motorcycling behind me I will concur with all the above posts urging caution, ive been on my ass off my 12 already....MY FAULT ENTIRELY !!!but i love it with a passion and now understand it better, maybe I should have got the slower silver, blue or red !!!!!AH SCREW IT, GO GREEN

My 12 is "notchy" between 2-3k... after that it`s smooth ass sailing. If you are driving at 2-3k then you should be on a Harley.

My only advice... make sure you have already pulled out from behind the car/bike/truck/spaceshuttle you are passing before you drop the hammer... unless you want to be in their backseat. It`s hard to turn when you front end is in the air.

Donk316,

How many of your friends have a 12 or have indeed ridden one?Go for the 12, you won't regret it, but sound advice from Ihampel, it will bite you badly if you don't respect it, wet or dry.

Take the time breaking it in to get used to it and also to read the posts on this site, everything you could want to know and more is somewhere on the site and Easy probably knows where to find it.

Wish you luck and of course, the Silver ones are faster!

Regards

Ted

I had to have the one on my '97 7R rebuilt to the tune of $1800. Oops, I'm sorry. It was a warranty claim. The joys of an extended warranty. Oh, did I mention it was just a bent shift fork (they replaced everything from the input to the output shafts anyway) and... the bike had 63,000 miles of clutchless upshifts (and a bunch of clutchless downshifts) on it? Don't let those "straight cut" gear stories scare you. Kawasaki trannys might be a tad noisey, but they are basically bulletproof.

As for the FI being just "on or off", it's more like flat slide carbs. If one is rather "ham-fisted" (whacks the throttle to WFO while idling at a light), you could be in for a surprise. One like you have never experienced on any other bike. It does require a little more "finesse", but so does a night in the bed with Kathy Ireland (except the 12R is more fun and lasts longer... trust me on this one).

I might not be fast, but I'm SLOWER than you!</p>
