I just wanted to share my happiness about my new purchase. I've replaced my CD player with a audiophiles wet dream. I got a Archo Jukebox with 10G capacity. It's just a little bigger then a pack of cigs. Couple that with my Boosteroo amp and 4 Bass Monster speaker, and I can ride for about 125 hours before I hear a song twice.

This is the bomb!

I got the Archo Jukebox from Amazon. Less then $200. If you have time, you can get them on Ebay sometimes.

They also have a 20GB one also.

The Boosteroo amp and Bassmonster speakers I got from a British site.

You can also find them on Ebay sometimes.

The whole thing fits on the inside pocket of my Joe Rocket jacket with room to spare for extra batteries.

Hey Trig

Any idea on how Archo compares to the Apple ipod?

http://www.apple.com/ipod/

I have been using Koss plug head phones. With Etymotic ER-20 ear plugs attached to them. They sound great, they keep out a lot of ouside noise and do not require the music level to be as loud as speakers. I got the idea from an article in the riderwarehouse catalog.

www.koss.com

www.etymotic.com

For good sound quality on sport and unfaired motorcycles, earplug speakers beat helmet speakers. If Koss earplug speakers (#3081 $17.00) do not fit snugly enough, an improved version can be made by combining a pair of Etymotic earplugs (#1030 $15.00) with the Koss speakers*. The Etymotic earplug’s silicone ear pieces remove with just a bit of force and no damage. Shorten the Koss plastic sound tubes to half the original length and insert them into the Etymotic’s silicone ear pieces. The fit is perfect, they stay in ears better, and the sound is unaffected. The modified earspeaker is sensitive to proper insertion, so care is needed to get them in right. A bit of saliva on the mushroom pieces can help. Putting them in too far may close the passage through the Etymotics and kill the sound, but when inserted correctly they provide a significant noise reduction and excellent sound. Donning a helmet usually does not affect placement but it can. Many other types of ear plugs may be combined with Koss earplug speakers, so experimenting can produce a personalized setup.

I am not familiar with any Apple products. I think you have to have an Apple computer to use an Ipod but I am not sure. And I don't think there is any other MP3 player out that has as much memory as the Archos does.

I tried riding with the earbud headphones but I found the helmet speakers more convenient. With 4 in my helmet, I get great sound even at 150mph.

Question on MP3's, can you program them to play songs in certain order? If you save a bunch of music, how hard is it to play the songs you want at any given time? I've never looked into them, but am very interested.

Thanks in advance.

Vinnie,

The Archos is the first one I have owned. It plugs into your USB port and shows up on your computer as another hard drive. You simply right click and cut or copy music from your hard drive and past it onto the Archos. You can set it up how ever you want. Just like a normal hard drive. Then you can let it play through all the tracks in order or shuffle.

Thanks trig. So if you've hit that lonely stretch of highway where you can see 10 miles ahead, but there's not a car in sight, how hard is it to find that special tune that goes well with 200 mph speeds?

If you put it in a tank bag with a clear pocket on top, you can flip through the songs real easily. There is a digital display that shows the artist and song title.

But let's be real..Do we 12R riders really need a song to get it to 200? If you can see 10 miles down the road, Frank Sinatra could inspire us!

I did not like the ear bud head phones either. But this modification of ear plugs works really well.
