Steve, you and Bob finalized your plans for next weekend yet? Let me know!

Plus, you've got mail on an unrelated topic. Would appreciate a reply as soon as you have time.

Thanks

Vinnie,

I was lookin foward to seeing Steve at the track fri. night, but did'nt. I did recieve my NOS kit in the mail sat. and I talked to Wayne fri. morning. Sounds like everything is set for Sat. in Bartlesville. Right now, I'm not sure who all is going.

Bob, TDK,

Do you guys understand the tuning issues with this NOS kit? I've heard Richard's and King's explanation, that the temp sensor in the air box reads the NOS due to reduced temp and bumps the fuel input, keeping the bike from getting too lean. It just seems like this is not an exact way to optimize the fuel/O2 ratio. With all the O2 input from the NOS, seems like the bike might still be running lean. Any thoughts? I'm just trying to understand.

Also I think King adds a resistor to a bike without power commander to help richen it... I could be wrong though... You can also richen it through the power commander...

I guess that's where I get lost Richard, do you just run it on the rich end of the scale when you're not using the NOS to keep it from getting too lean when you are using NOS?

I am not a genius on the subject either... But to my understanding... Your bike (without NOS) adjust to cold weather riding by adding more fuel to compensate... Same principle with the NOS... Your sensor reads the drop in temp and dumps fuel for compensation... Thus richening it up for the NOS... If you richen it thru the PC you will be running that way all the time... Also with the resistor I assume it will be a little rich all the time.... If I am wrong somebody correct me but this is my understanding....

Sorry, I am jumping in on this so late....

I will know for sure Tuesday, that I am or am not going to

do this. ( The biggest hurdle is its Melissa B-day )

Also, if I start new job.... Wish I wasn't waiting so late

I have e-mail wayne as well and will be paying extra shipping to get everything here on time.

As for the NOS operation, I am speaking from automotive

exper. only, the o2 sensor reads temp of air ( intake ) and

when it's cooler it richen's the mixture ( when NOS is introduced in the intake, the temp drops , o2 reads drop and richens it, when NOS is gone, temp warms to outside temp again and sensor sends signal to lean out again, that way

its only rich when NOS is present. It is a simple operation

as far a electronics (automotive ) goes.... ??

more to follow soon...

Steve

Thats what I am not sure of with the resistor if it richens it some all the time..... But if you richen it some in the pc it will be that way all the time.... Safe has the Idea exactly how it works......

OK, got a good topic going now!

Air is about 20% O2, the rest mostly N2. As temps, humidity, and altitude decrease, we all know it gets denser.

NOS has a much higher concentration of Oxygen, plus it has the same effect of cooler temps as it hits the airbox. My point is this; Wouldn't NOS have a much higher concentration than just a shot of cold air? Maybe the shot of cold NOS directly on the sensor plus the added warm air through the snorkle is just the right mixture to provide the same O2 concentration as a constant direct shot of cold air. As such, maybe the NOS mix doesn't affect the air/fuel ratio enough to cause much concern. All things considered, I wouldn't want to be running a lean map when I hit the NOS button.
