Hey guys I recently purchased a zx12r a1 it's a change from what I use to ride r1 r6 cbr600. Asyou can see I'm a experienced rider I just wanted some advice and opinion on the zx12r what's it like to own one are they expseive to maintain
My bike has 54.000 kms I
How reliable are the zx12r ?
What things should I be looking out for while owning one ?
I heard there was a few recalls regarding fuel sensor clutch basket etc ?
Problems with my bike

Fuel gauge sits in 3 bars even when it's full or empty how can I repair this ?

On cold Start it makes a few noises I will upload a cold start video so you have a better picture ?

I replaced front wheel bearings cleaned the petrol tank there was a lil rust in there
Replace front tyre spark plugs iridium ngk plugs Motul oil I'm going to do the air filters and chain and sprocket soon I'm planning to restore it and do a lil mods to it it's fairly stock and thanks you in advance

Congratulations on aquiring your 12r.
Great bikes I have 2 . They are in general very reliable.
The clutch basket is fine for normal use but weak for heavy drag starts.
My road 12r has oem basket no problems. I broke basket on my drag bike when I was starting gettin into dragging my 12r .
If you abuse it what can you expect. They are not designed for 7000 rpm + clutch drops . I launch 9k on my billet no problens. Not required on a street bike.
Sounds like sensor/sender switch in tank is your guage problem. Easy to fix.
Good luck :)

Hi Robbie and welcome to another aussie
you need to upload a few pictures of your new steed, and what mod you buy?
read the sticky at start of forum on reg mod, as for reliability they're like any modern bike should last for years keep good oil up to her and she will love you for it, as for maintenance just keep up with the hand book services even plugs is a 1 beer job or 2 if you have large hands like me.
they are big comfy and a load of fun enjoy Craig

G'day Robbie!

Welcome to the site mate. Lots of info in here to absorb, as mentioned spend time reading the looooong sticky threads on the reg/rec - stator - oil in wiring issue, fun stuff on a quiet evening

Look forward to reading more of your involvement with 12.

Don't think I'll miss seeing that on the road!

If the fuel issue is just the gauge being stuck then it may just be the fuel level float stuck in the tank, worth sorting that out first before maybe. A manual is a good idea, you may find a link to a downloadable version on here.

Dastardly I pmd you my email address duck00. The fuel level is stuck on 3 or4 bars pulling i my 12 apart is a nightmare so what I have purchased recently are
The hot bodies undertail
asvbrake and clutch levers long version not Chinese knock offs
The bike came with a yoshi rs3 can
Mini spool and stand it be up on stands for the next couple of months
A few stickers and tank pad
With these cheap ass Chinese farings that came with the bike I wanted to carbon fibre wrap the whole bike until tts all black cheapest option I hate the yellow hence why named big bird
Soon to come in the new year 2017!
Try and find cheap zx12r Oem fairings to restore I found a immaculate set from the us for 1950 dollars that's with out shipping and the special price you pay for Australia customs I'm might get each individual part to save customs tax
Power commander 5
Valve and shims adjustment
New sprocket and chain
Billet race clutch they are way over priced looking for a cheap used one
I wanna make her perfect before I even think about touring

Nice list.

The PCV is good but maybe not completely necessary if you are only using the Yoshi RS3 muffler, as it doesn't affect the fuelling/running of the bike with just the bolt on muffler. Still your choice and can be used later with a good full system and dyno tune.

The fairing set sounds good and getting it in pieces will save money on tax, but beware that by July 2017 the government intends to apply that tax to items bought off the web/ebay on anything from Aus $20 !!...Buggers...

If the bike is otherwise running well then you should have no problems with long distance trips, I do the Adelaide to Phillip Island run once a year - 900kms one way, then back again so all good! IF you are looking for travel bags etc. I have the Ventura set up with double bags that I'm willing to part with, just send me a PM if interested.

Good luck with it all,

Don.
