Hi all,

I got my 2002 zx12r a couple of weeks ago. I LOVE this bike!!!!! Best bike I've ridden.

The only thing I noticed recently is that the rear tire is conti-motion 190 instead of 200

I think the original size should be 200. I don't know why the previous owner put 190 instead of 200. Maybe that's what he could find at that time.

But anyways, the bike feel great. it handles well, I feel confident in corners...

I am just wondering, what would happen if I put on 200, it's gonna make the bike perform better or I would hardly notice a difference?

I am guessing it would make the bike more stable? Right now I think it is a very stable bike and it also handles great....things may change if I put on 200????

Also how's conti-motion? I used it like five years ago on my honda nt650. I was under the impression that it is more like street touring tire.

Depends... Don't whatever you do go back to the 200/50 it'll slow down your steering something awful. If you're finding you want a 200 then go for a 200/55 it's decent bit better than the original 200/50 and you still get the 200 bragging rights :crackup:

The only problem with the 200/55 is if you're running a rear hugger then you'll have to jack it up slightly as it's a taller tyre :thumbup:

I also run a 190/55. there are more tire brand options and they handle very well. you will find they are also more affordable which is a bonus, because the 12 likes its tires

200/55 supercorsa works very very well 4 me on my street bike.
Everyone has their favourites theres lots of good tyres out there.
Stock oem hugger is ok. Aftermarket usually snags.I went
+1 on the rear sprocket to maintain gearing for road.
A slight lift in the rear is good on A1/2 as it will then be similar to the revised B series. Or drop it in the tree slightly.
Id never go back to a 200 /50 on my street bike.The difference is like comparing a heavy tourer to a sports bike but on the same bike!
Getting very good mileage on the supercorsas. 3x more than the cheapies. Just put 1000 miles on my rear and loadsa tread left.
Good luck both 190 or 200/55 will make you happy.
Zero chicken strips on the 200/55 grinds those foot pegs nicely :)

So is the tyre change benefit generally for the A model and the revised B model is OK on the stock tyre?

I run the 190 55 on my 14r and 200 55 on my 12r. I like how the 190 55 turns in better. The 200 55 is a bit more stable in the turns and straights. The 200 50 is for looks imo.
I have use the conti motions on my 12r. The are ok for 150 buck a set but made for a lighter bike. I cut my rear tire going over some rail road tracks. What type of riding do you do? That will help us help you pick a tire. I know some that think the 185 55 is the best choice but I have not use it. Also some 190 50 are as tall as another makes 190 55. So that is something to look it too as well. Redsled.

190/55, especially with high profile like Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa or Supercorsa.
Currently using Pirelli DRC 200/55, good but I'll go back to 190/55 next change.
It's the 55 that turns the bike better, lifts the back of the bike and changes geometry just a bit. Not enough to need a steering damper luckily. Some also shim the top of the rear shock for a bit more, but personally I think the Japanese aren't daft, they made a stable bike and I would mess about too much.

I'd be interested in knowing how the Pirelli's go on a track too, I am thinking of using them on Phillip Isd. in November. I have used Dunlop 200/55 and like the size.

Not used a Supercorsa. They do the size though.
I've had the DRC 190/55 and 20/55 inflated on different wheels, side by side.
Hardly any measurable difference in width and if anything the 190/55 seemed to have a more V shaped profile. You have to be pretty daring to get the 200/55 to the edge.

All Good advice. For Drag Racing the 200/50 is best! For Road Race the 190/55 is Best. The less difference in tire width between the Front and Rear, the Better the Roll Rate. Also the Top Speed from Aero Drag is increased with the 200's

The #1 reason I use Dunlops is the Warning on the Edge. They give me a good warning when I am about to go over the Edge. Unlike Michelins that have 100% Grip to the Edge and then you are Down (Please ask me how I know this.)

ok ill chime in, i run the bridgestone s21's and i run a 200-55r17 rear tire, i have no handling or stability issue's, i ride the mountains and take the bike to the track { road course track } my front as well as rear tires are ridden clear to the edge. handling and turn in are easy and precise, i have turned alot of my friends on to the bridgestone tire and they love it, and these were guys that swore by michilin or pirelli tires.

B4 model. I run Avon 200/50s but I've also put 2x5mm washers under the top of the rear shock to jack the back end up, this give more peg ground clearance, and a 50/50 weight balance between wheels, and also speeds the steering up nicely.

that is interesting you saying about 50/50 weight balance ! on the m.o.t couple of weeks ago my A1 weighed more on the front ,the chap that was doing the m.o.t said normally it would be equal ? i have a 200/50 on it ,which i put on when on was on a road trip ,i got caught out on the canvas with the 190 i had on it ,so i did not have any option other than to put the 200/50 that was all i could get ... but i will be changing it soon ,but i will go for a 200/55 this time .

Will def depend on YOUR riding style.
I run 190/55 Michelin SuperSport Evo, resembles hot super glue!
I also raised my rear 19/21mm
Plan to drop front by 10/15mm as soon as I get a front stand at the triple
Last thing I'd say on matter is don't skimp on them due to cost. Wait and grab the best you can get

Plenty of brands to pick from
