Far as electronics, I know they will only get more and more intrusive with every new model. It's just the way it is now there is no stopping it. But I will personally never be for them on a motorcycle. Nothing against those who enjoy having it available. There is something so so very uncool about not having my hand in 100% control of the throttle that just bothers me to no end. The thought of a computer analyzing what I'm asking the throttle to do than making a decision for me as how much throttle I will get that is just completely and 100% unacceptable for me. It totally ruins the connection I have with the bike as well as that magic feeling hustling down a back road knowing at the end that, yea I did that with my experience and skills ... Crashing sucks, but I'll take the lessons learned over artificial intervention every time.

Tire and ground were cold, tire is also new which doesn't help for sure not being fully scrubbed yet, wasn't going fast at all and wasn't even on the throttle when the ass came around. Was just a bad combo of new cold rubber on cold ground. Literally felt like I hit a patch of ice just came right out from under me before I knew it even broke loose. Never felt a thing was just all of a sudden sliding on my ass. At least it didn't catch fire after sliding like my last bike! Hah.
So, you are saying that you weren't applying any throttle, when the rear came around? How is that possible, technically? Were you on the rear brake?

No not at all. I've crashed few times in my life this was for sure one of the strangest. Was making a left onto a side road from another side road, was in gear just coasting through the turn. Soon as I leaned I was on my back. Not sure if there was oil or smtg on the ground? After my 12 spread all 4 of her quarts on the road there was no way to tell what was there before. There was no leaves or any debris visable, and like I said after all my babies blood went everywhere I couldn't tell if maybe there was some liquid down before I hit it.

And was the rear that washed out. Was an ice cold Diablo Corsa which is known for longer warm ups and being very slick when cold. Was also a brand new rear tire, which you know also doesn't help until it's scrubbed in.

Same damn thing happened to me. Pulled off into a left turn, next thing I knew I was laying on my side, still in a riding position, and the bike was 10 feet away doing circles on its left side then quit. Happened quick as shit and wasn't goin very fast...maybe 5mph...but I imagine I may have gave her just a touch too much and the rear broke and off she went. Doesn't take much with these bikes and their touchy throttles. Sounds like you suffered more damage than I did. I kept the bent clutch lever on there. Modified to give me more pull...

Cost me $1,300 to repair mine with all new OEM parts. If your nose didn't get broke, you can knock $500 off that for a ballpark of what brand new parts would cost.

Left panel - $400
Foam inside panel - $50 x2
Sticker left panel - $50
New generator cover - $150
New cover gasket - $18
New mirror - $135

I had a nose ($507) that was already cracked but let go so I replaced it as well. Sounds like one of the guys here has what ya need and most likely cheaper than OEM new. You'll be back up and running in no time. Ya learn to hold the clutch on a cold tire and cold road when turning so there is no chance of a hiccup of juice to that rear again...

My poor 12 did the circle dance on it left side as it slid as well. Sucks... Possibly may need a left side panel but from my initial look oddly no plastics broke just all scuffed up. Going back to where it's at today to inspect it was to pissed off to take things apart yesterday. But only looked like the left side casing which punctured clear through, clutch lever and clipon which is no biggie. The mirror even folded in nicely and just got rashed up. Overall very lucky

I ride in the winter all the time since I first started on the street. I've crashed before but this was my first cold weather downing. I'm always extra careful in the cold, but shit happens, bikes fall over sometimes it's just part of riding. I'll live to crash another day

They are a blast! I need to clean the carbs on my '89 and start riding it again!
I got a hell of a deal on this one. It has just over 20K miles and to the best of my knowledge and inspection, it has never been down. It is a 1996, the year they went all black, and I have drooled over a 1996 since they were new. In fact, I am sure I have a dealer brochure from then. This one popped up on a local classifieds website for an already pretty low price. It was listed on there for about a month before I sent a low ball offer, and they countered with an offer of $200 more than my offer. I had the cash so I went for it. Picking it up, it came with a Corbin seat, the factory mufflers and a factory service manual. It also came with a sissy bar, which has been replaced and is currently up for sale along with the Corbin seat. If those 2 get close to what I think they are worth, I will have about $1500 in it when it is said and done.

Gonna ride it and enjoy it for a while. They are a fricking blast to ride, that's for sure.

were you wearing any protective gear?
because if you were that would make you more likely to crash..

I just hope and pray you werent wearing a helmet, they will kill you...
Surprisingly it did as described and saved my butt. Had obviously a helmet on, jacket gloves dragon jeans. All got shredded up and I didn't get so much as a scratch rash wise. Weird how well gear works sometimes right lol..

(Outsider) that's a real sweet bike man congrats again on it. Never rode one but they are so freakin cool, my HS football coach had one with some work done to it, had a bottle of go fast gas hangin off the side, thing sounded unbelievable coming down the road. Always loved those things. Have fun and enjoy it

I know this is gonna come as a shock but you can turn all the electronics off except ABS.With all this power on tap you gotta trim the power delivery when needed. The h2 can be put into RAIN mode at any time riding by pushing the UP button for around 2 seconds. In this mode it only has a little bit of power and all electronics work together to get you home without crashing. You could be going around a turn in 1st gear, rev the engine, dump the clutch and the engine will just studder and not spin the tire.

Electronics have come along ways for sure and I know they work, do what their intended to do, and thank god they can be turned off 100% on bikes not like on cars where it'll say it's off but u hang the tail out far enough and it reels u back in anyway. If I could swing a new bike I would it wouldn't be a deal breaker. I just personally prefer not to have em if possible. The direct connection between throttle and throttle bodies/carbs just feels right. Feels different than ride by wire system. I don't need to worry about it as all my money is now going to putting my crashed 12 back together.

The good news is that in most cases you can set the ecu up to default to no rider aids. With a flash, of course.
