Had my new Pilot M2 Race tires put on the 12 today.

Sign me up on the list of people who say adios to the 200 rear.

With the 180, it doesn't even feel like the same bike. The turn in is sooooo much quicker, it feels like the bike weighs 40 lbs less.

All I can say to the guys still running a 200, is you have no idea what you are missing.

Thanks to all the guys who recommended the Pilots and 180 rear and a special thanks to Mamba who actually sent me a set of them!

It really amazes me the difference these tires makes on the 12.

Now, granted, 20mm doesn't sound like much, but you will not believe how much lighter the 12 feels on turn in.

I am one happy camper. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek">

Boost, you'll have to talk to Mamba on the pricing because I believe that it depends on the batch he gets, he can confirm that or correct what I am saying. Also, the numbers are VERY limited on these tires from Mamba.

I will tell you that the shop I went to today specializes in motorcyle tires and I had 3 guys who wanted to beat me up to get Mambas phone number. I did a Karate thing and blazed out of there on the 12, and needless to say, I got away.

How much would you say is the 180, and how much is the race rubber?? Modding out two bikes is expen$ive and I wonder how much of the effect I could get with a little harder (longer lasting) 180? Please post how those Pilots wear for you. Thanks!

So far I would say its the 180, because the riding I have done has not been working the tires hard. So yes, my gut feeling is you could go with say a Pilot HP Street or whatever your preferred brand is in a 180 and accomplish your goal. I believe NinjaDude is running the Pilot HP Sport Streets and I think he said at 1k miles when he picked up the nail in the rear, that he felt they had at LEAST %50 more life left in them.

I don't typically ride over 4-5K miles a year, and I love super sticky tires for the mountains, so mileage really isn't my primary factor.

I will post how they are wearing in a month or so with a mileage update, though.

That is really good to hear Shane. If I remember correctly, you did a Deals Gap ride on these tires not too long ago and probably worked them a bit in the curves. If they are looking good at 1k miles, that is a very good thing. If I can get 3k out of them, I'll be happy.

Blitz, did you mount 'em yourself? Didn't you get tire equipment recently? I'm gonna go that way soon myself. I wonder how hard the 180's are to get on the rim...

When I got my last tire, I asked about a 190 and they said they preferred to do it when it wasn't too cold out, cause the beads are harder to deal with when its cold if you go to a smaller tire. My BS-0-meter jumped, but I really didn't know. I just happened to be looking thru the June issue of Sport Rider with a big tire shootout...your new tires rated awesome!

I usually wear tire's fairly evenly. I rarely have flat spot's. Yes, I worked

them over in the Gap pretty good for a couple day's. Very little wear. I'll

tell you what, you've really gotta lean to get that chicken strip off the front

tire. The profile is alot different than any other. They stick good. They never

slipped, but they don't seem to build the confidence of the softer tire's.

ZX12er, I found a shop here in town that specializes in motorcycle tires, their rates are good, and yep, they promised no scratches (and they kept their promise). I am going to keep working on getting everything set up to change my own tires, but not there yet (my buddy decided not to go in on the kit available on the internet, so I will probably build everything I can to save costs).

My Dunlops were really shot (the back was starting to stress crack and had wires coming out) so I needed to get the tires changed this weekend, period.

I've got right at 1k mile's on mine now and so far they are holding up very

well. Hardly any wear at all. These are Medium compound tire's.

I'm running the 180 Pilot Sport. Previous was a 190 Pilot Sport. While the 190 was much better than the 200, the 180 is THE tire! Like everyone says, bike feels much lighter. I think I would have gotten about 3000 miles out of the 190 Pilot, not sure cause the nail killed it first. They do wear much better than the damn dunlops however. Handling is vastly superior to the dunlops too!
