Hi Members. I'm glad join your forum. Of course, I have a problem I need help with. I managed to shear off the Timing Advancer Locating Spring Pin on the crankshaft gear. The gear is a machined part of the crank, and therefore, not replaceable. Anybody have any ideas on how to remove what's left of the spring pin that's stuck inside the crank gear?

This happened because I was trying to rotate the engine with the 22mm nut that holds the pin in place. The Allen Head socket bolt was loose (by others) and hence, the pin sheared off. Next time I need to rotate the motor, where should I be rotating the motor from? Also, any thoughts on removing the Spring Pin? THANKS!

Hi Skyjack: Buy an original spring pin and measure it's diameter; then carefully use a same diameter sharp drill bit with a low speed drill and drill the broken piece inside the crank. The HSS drill bit should take care of the pin and then insert a new pin in the hole.
If unsure about the job or lack the proper tools ask someone to do it for you because it must be done properly.
Normally the engine can be turned from that location no problem.

See if you can find a sheet metal screw. machine screw or even a tap small enough to thread into the center, You may be able to get it to grab enough to pull out. If that doesn't work you can try drilling it out but you will at the very least need a high quality drill bit (not that home depot crap) or possibly a carbide drill. The danger of drilling is over-sizing the hole or breaking the bit off in it. A carbide drill bit small enough to get that pin out is very brittle and should really be used in a mill or drill press, Break that off and you are truly in a world of crap.

Take the spark plugs out so you have very little compression. That`s what i do whenever adjusting valves on bike engines
