This was emailed in to me today, it is a race with Turbo Tim on the ZX-12R

"I got a call early Saturday morning from my Buddy Derrick Because one of the

local guys with a Busa wanted to run. Derrick asked if I would ride the

ZX12 for him since his foot is still in a cast. We met at 2pm in Eutaw

Alabama, A small town west of my hometown of Tuscaloosa. The Busa had a

Muzzy pipe and was lowered but no other mods I could see. The ZX12 was

still stock with the muzzy Map loaded into it. When we got to the stretch

of road we were going to race on the local police were already there. No

problem with that though because they like to see a race too. (Only in the

country can you race in front of the local Police :)) As we got ready to

run the first race there was betting on the side and we had agreed to run

for $100 dollars a race plus some side bets. We were going off of a flagman

and as we rolled to the line I could feel the butterflies( I had just bet

$100 on myself). I pulled up, the flagman ponted at both of us and then he

dropped his hat. I gave the big ZX12 too much gas at first and the rear

tire broke loose to the right. I knew I could not let off so I stayed in it

and it fishtaled back to the left but was still right beside the Busa. At

this point I could have turned his kill switch off we were so close. The

tire started getting traction and the ZX started to wheelie. I shifted to

second to get the front end down and layed in the throttle hard slipping the

clutch to keep the front end down. I noticed to my left that the Busa's

front end was higher than the ZX so I gave it more throttle and pulled about

a bike length ahead. We both went to third and tucked in. I could hear him

but not see him. I finished one bike length ahead. $100 dollars to the

richer and a great feeling. He told me how he had wheelied and wanted to

go again for the same bet. I said yes and road a wheelie back down to the

starting line. The Crowd thought he had a bad start and he could get me so

the bets were on again for the second race! Little did they know I had not

done really well myself so I placed my second bet. More later, Tim.

And the second part of the story.

"The crowd was undecided at this point and they were all siding with there

hometown Busa. Everyone was giving him tips and telling him what to do

while I waited on the side of the road. He was fired up this time and was

ready to go...but so was I. The Flagman pointed at us both them

immediately dropped his hat, We were off. I was really riding the clutch

and we came off the line side by side and he went into the rev limiter from

1st to 2nd and I hit the shift just right and clicked half a bike length

ahead. We both hit 3rd and I still stayed half a bike length ahead. I

could just see the front of his bike out of the corner of my eye. We held

them wide open until the finish line and I felt like I was pulling further

ahead at the end of the run. I won another $100 dollars this time. He told

me again that he thought he could win with a little better start and he

wanted to try another run. With two wins under my belt I was comfortable

and I could tell the ZX was giving nothing up to the Busa so we road back to

the starting line for another pass. (You got to love these watercooled

bikes!). Tim.

Hey Dale, as you can see, I AM on this forum. That was a post from my pal,Turbo Tim via the Bandit List. I thought you people would enjoy it. Tim is a kick ass rider, has owned a bunch of bikes, and loves to race both on and off the strip. Bogus Dave

Funny thing is... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> "the Busa is the fastest production bike ever made!" <- <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Honestly I think the US cycle rags did wonderful job...of suckering the "less informed" toward the "WartHog" looking suzuki. ("KingPig" comes to mind!) <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

Now...if the 12, TurboTim was riding, was allowed to breath a little. (Pipe/K&N/etc..) the race wouldn't have even been close. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/pimp.gif ALT=":hat">

That is true, the 12 with a pipe will kick the butt of Busa with a pipe any day. The 12 really comes alive when you take the catalytic converter off and let it breath with a good exhaust system, not to mention the weight savings.

I think Kawasaki made it easy for us to really get the 12 rolling with just the addition of a pipe, they even made the map richer to compensate for a pipe. Even with a pipe I think the map is still rich in some area's, we just need to figure out how to use it up.

The Busa was the fastest bike in 1999 but in 2000 it lost out, unfortunately being first to a goal seems to have lasting recognition even if someone beats it later, they have to beat it by a large margin to really get the glory back. But when it comes to riding who cares if your bike is a 99 or 00-02 you buy the bike with the highest grin factor and in my books the 12 has the highest grin factor period. You don't need to come up with excuses for your bike being ugly oops I mean original design, you have an awesome looking bike with a unique frame and bike layout combined with top notch power.

OK back to packaging shirts. I think the glue I am licking on the envelopes is starting to affect my judgement. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Those guys are close enough to meet lhampel, TENN12 and myself for some riding. Stories like this will make me take my ZX12 off the market. :)

how long are you guys waiting to break in your bikes??? i just turned 1300 (only got the bike jan 16th) but still scared to rev over 9000, i have hit 140 already though

mine is all stock, and rides faster than my '95 zx11, lighter and better handling too

a little vibration at 100, but i am not sure whether that is in my imagination, not a wobbling, just my belt tickles my stomach (i couldnt think of a better way to explain it)

according to the break-in sticker, i have to do 500 miles under 4000 rpm, then another 500 under 6000 rpm, then a little note on the bottom says dont go over 9000 rpm for another 1600 miles, that totals 2600 miles before i can whack it???!!!

am i reading this thing right???

I found that it took a good 2000miles before it loosened up, until then it kept gaining in power. I would follow the instructions.
