Hibs decided to have a huge family, so look what I have. Another project!!! Found on eBay for a song. 2004 roller with 5000 miles. The 12 is in great shape. I’m thinking this will make a real nice street bike with some basic bolt ons.

Maybe just a set of pedals and the right sprockets?
Just kidding. It does look nice. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

These chassis are really light. You could pedal! Lol All the weight is in the engine. Modern bikes have done a good job of light weight engines.

This engine has about 10k miles. But of course it’s 20 years old.

Always amazes me the power that may have been left on the table. The boots and the ports not even close. All of the heads I have seen are like this. If everything else was the same, how much hp is in port matching and cleaning out all the ruff casting. Not a port just a clean and match. 2-5 hp? 5-10??

Cheers!

-What are your plans with the engine, just a clean & service or ?? Looking at the intake pictures makes me a little bummed out that I did not unbolt the engine from the bike and go deeper into it. Those intake ports and intake boots are no where close to match, that is free power left unused. Then again I do not think port matching is worth more than a couple of HP, but still, it won't take more than some garage time and it's "free". Most of all I think the engine would run smoother and have a better throttle respons, so a port match is well worth the time and effort just for that reason. The engine in my bike is definitely now coming out next winter so I can look it over more closely...

And aren't the A1 intake boots bigger than every model after?!

Just a clean up, maintenance and a few bolt ons Mefirst. And as far as “free” hp, lots of junk in the port too.

Cheers cmg!

Those cylinder head ports do need a bit of polishing work, then again I am not surprised, those are cast stock heads after all. That said, I do think Kawasaki could have spent a couple of minutes cleaning out at least the worst of it....

I have not heard of this before. If it’s the case then plenty of A1model boots available. Would be a easy upgrade.

They've got a different part number too.
I guess if you've got a few sets around you could compare?

CMG, I agree with the porting comments, had mine sorted when the engine was built and probably contributed somewhat to the end HP results!

Steve, do you mean the lip on the bottom of the boot on the A1 models? We used to get rid of it to make the boot fit smoothly onto the throttle bodies. They removed the lip on later models I believe.
