Has anybody had any problems with their TPS and had to change it, or do I have another problem, :head scratch:
I went for a ride yesterday the bike went great, when I hit the traffic near home the idle was all over the place when i opened the throttle it hesitated big time
would run ok mid range and hesitate again at 5000revs, It doesn't feel like fuel pump i have had that issue before.
I checked the TPS with a multi meter and it was way out and had trouble adjusting it (getting the settings right) I tried idling it at 2000rpm and adjusting it to highest revs, off idle was better but not anything else, put the meter back on and managed to set it (haven't taken it out since as we have a cyclone here at the moment) My bike is a stock B2 and if it helps it is black and gold stock except for a can and k&n air filters, they are clean, I feel it is the TPS as it is moving the trouble around when adjusted, the only other thing I have done is just before the ride I added some injector cleaner to the tank but the problem started after an 80km ride. any help thanks Craig

You might pull it apart and hose it all down with a good contact cleaner...
See if it will hold a setting after , you aren't out anything but a little time
If it doesn't work. ... Good luck...

how many miles on that tps.You ought to get at least 50k miles out of 1................A tps is a rheostat .The wiper and segments will wear over time. The only good ways to check them is testing with an oscilloscope or just replace with new for 125 bucks.

2002 zx12r b-1

I've got problems, can barely get to 70 mph . if in neutral for instance, opening up throttle to hold at 10,000 rpm it will not Rev over 5000rpm and bogs down to 2000 and back to 5 and back to 2. Terrible and depressing

Hi, pm me your details and I'll post it today(tomorrow)

Didn't find the part number, I recall you had to buy whole throttle body assy to replace one of these(just asking, why?)
And while you're at it, you could check the resistance on yours also?

Hi Im getting 5.46k ohms
Im getting 5.06 volts to the sensor
the fuel pump is priming
No fault codes crankshaft sensor within required resistance
I have re set the TPS to 1.084 volts
My TPS reads 1.084 volts closed with fast idle off
when I open the throttle it gets to 1.99 volts at about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle and then shows an open circuit when closing the throttle it shown 1.99 volts at the same place and then counts down to 1.084 volts
the resistance on the TPS stays the same as you wind it around
the bike fires up instantly and then cuts out 1/2 to 1 second later
is it the ecu or tps anybody else have same problem
i haven't pulled the pump yet as I have a 1/2 tank of fuel and it didn't feel like pump when it played up I will check the strainer and pump tomorrow or later today
the bat is flat now on the charger will try again tomorrow
any and all help is appreciated and wanted thanks Craig :banghead:

The tps should not go open circuit whilst opening it . The tps should keep climbing volts as you open the throttle . Your best bet would be to get another one and go from there .

yes it looks like that but I would think it should run at idle and bugger up when it flatlines (open circuit) sometimes you just need to buy 2 bikes the same
It will take a while to get another tps the spare one (98R1) had a resistance prob Craig

can I bridge the terminals at the TPS so the ecu thinks it is at wot to try and start the bugger this will give a constant return to the ecu of 5.06 volts
the wot setting is 4.61 volts SO will a bridge hurt the ecu

Hi there dastartly.

I too have been having problems with my tps here in Iceland but in a way it is way to rich and the engine runs very funny and the exhaust sound is some how deeper.(my zx12r has about 23k miles) I have just unplugged my tps (the upper one) on my B5 and then it runs ok but the red FI light comes on, but it runs better(not so terrible rich, it burned almost 2x of fuel) It to hesitates at 5k rpm but runs fine after that. I have not gone to the measures to measure my tps but it is faulty for sure. So I think the next step is to find one on line or at the next reasonable us dealer. 150 us buks is not too bad if it fixes the problem.
