I am very keen to retain the engine performance of my 12R but feel it would make an interesting ride in a smaller bike like a ZX9R has anyone done it before, would the 12R engine fit ?

how much money do you have? It would be hard to do since the frame design is totally different. And the 9 frame is probably too narrow for the wide motor. but who knows.... I would be curious to see one...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT="">

if you removed all the street crap....turn signals etc
get rid of passenger equipt

go carbon fiber & titanium everywhere
wheels, exhaust, other items

no doubt increase your power to weight ratio
into the 9 neighborhood or better

lean on the motor
yoy've got a real contender

I would contact Spondon Engineering in th UK. They do specialty frames, and I am sure they have a smaller wheelbase aluminum frame that would be up your alley. I was planning a Spondon Streetfighter w/a single sided swingarm, and upside down forks, but I was having trouble finding a good 11 motor. Too much work, so I bought a 12.

Get a ZX-9R and install the Muzzy 998 kit or whatever it is. You will have the weight advantage because the 9R's engine is smaller than the 12's and you will make more horse power than the GSXR-1000! Actually, I think the kit as much horsepower as a bone stock 12R.

Relatively, its not that expensive either!

the 750...9000 & the 12 are derivatives
along the same engineering premise

was not surprised to see KHI stay with the
inline 4 format for motogp

that will translate directly to streetbikes in years to come
seriously cant wait

motogp engines will have 220hp +
just getting it all on the ground is the hard part

still in each direction with the big 12
much $$$$$$ is involved

So are you saying that the engine mounts and drive outlet and in the correct position to fit the 9R ?

On the 12 I guess the biggest problem is all the fuel injection stuff under the tank and the tank is totally different.

I have built a ZX6R engine but never dropped the 9 or the 12 as yet.

I used to race sidecars so making bits and mods are not a problem after dry sumping a ZX10 motor.

Have you tried a modded 9R yourself ?

Cheers Mick

Mick,
I have shoe horned a ZXR900R B2 motor into a ZXR750L chassis and it worked out great. I measured up the 12 for size whilst I was there and it would need a serious amount of chopping and changing of the frame rails!!
I might still have a try next year when things settle down for me and I get some spare time (185 BHP closet ZXR750)!!
Spondon and Harris both will construct a chassis for you but you will have to wait some time and spend big bucks! But you will have something different!
There are lots of other frame builders in the UK, Street fighters list quite a few as well.
Hope it helps you out
Regards
Ted

I've read about them. There was one in Sport Rider's UFO shootout 5 or 6 years ago. That thing hauled nutz. It had Richard's favorite gas NOS on it as well. They raved about it.
