Buy a 600.

I'm serious. You are gonna be insurance poor.

Your other option (at least here in the states, I don't know about CAN) would be to pay cash for the bike and then just carry liability.

Anything happens to the bike (like stolen) its your loss. But with the kind of insurance cost you are talking 2 years insurnace would pay for the bike anyway.

Buy a house, buy a car, assign the bike to the "pleasure" catagory (7500 miles/year or less), and age by about 5-6 years. That oughta help.

Seriously though, you're gonna get hosed no matter how you slice it. You're better off going smaller or older. Heheh, I said "hosed" to a Canadian, eh.

1. 10+ years rider experience
2. rider safety class w/i last 2 yrs
3. pleasure only vehicle ( less then ___ miles a year )
4. Value the bike / Insure for $______. ( I valued mine @ $9k
thats all they would pay anyways for replacement value,
even if I put it in at 12-15k, they only pay what they can replace it for, so $9k it is)
5.State Farm for me.

( above can be real or fictional it worked for me )

Safe, does StateFarm allow you to classify the bike as a "pleasure vehicle"? What's it run for you?

When I lived in OKC, my ins. with State Farm was about $180 per yr. for the ZX11 - full coverage. I moved to Houston and it jumped to over $800, same coverage! My 12 costs me about $900+! Can't figure it.

I thought I was going to hosed ( no pun to are friends in the great white north) when I called my insurance co., State Farm. They asked for the vin and bike description/ cc's/ asked if it had a turbo ( not yet ) and then quoted $320 for the year with full coverage, collision and liability, same coverage have on my truck and tart cart ( mini van). Not bad for NJ.

No rhyme or reason behind my ins. costs. When I moved from OKC, bike ins. went up 4x, house ins. when down to less than half (with more house), and car ins. went down slightly. ????????? I don't get it.

they probably figured since you moved some place warmer you won't be at home, in your car, or in your truck. you'll spend all your time on your bike.

which is where all of us would be if we lived where it was warm enough to do that year round?

Either that, or they realized Houston is full of hooligans, kinda like the 250 kids thrown in jail for being in the K-Mart parking lot a few weeks back!

If you have your heart set on the 12R you could get a cash draw on a credit card and have the title to the bike in your hand and not be required to have insurance. Its a risk but life is full of risks. Or you could get a ZRX1200 because the insurance may be affordable at your age then you could hop it up with the $$$ you would save on the 12Rs cost and sky high insurance. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Age is against you.
So is the fact that insurance companies hate motorcycles.
Especially young guys on bikes.

I bought my 12 at age 24.
I was married so I put it in my wifes name.
She was 23 and does not have her bike license.
They did not care.
Saved me $1500 a year.
I still pay $1000.
And I am on as a second rider.
So I ride it all the time with no worries.

If you are single that won't work.
By a beater bike, with smaller engine, and ride
the shite out of it until you are older.

If you CAN pay cash so you can carry liability only but with a twist here in NC you can add fire & theft to basic liability for about 40 more per year... I found this out the hard way my bike was stolen and my ass was out!!! PERIOD...

So if you crash it {GOD FORBID} and able to walk away dont call cops get it out of street and say it got stolen?...

IMHO...
