What was the most absurd mod you ever made to any of your bikes?

I once made a sissy bar for my ’69 CB750. It had a padded backrest. On the top of the sissy bar was a life size realistic skull facing the rear with red lights in the eye sockets wired to the signal lights. And get this. The sissy bar also included an 8-track tape player and two 6 inch speakers. All I can say is that I was 16 years old.

My most absurd mod would half to be the slash cut mufflers on a 71 BMW R75/5.

Sounded like a Briggs and Stratton on steriods.

I agree with oldmono12r, that would be a Kodak moment. You have to see it to believe it. Almost as bad as this fur covered GSXR on eBay right now, but not as bad.

Hello, My name is OutsiderZX12R, and I am a ZX-12R.org addict.

I used to have an old '74 Honda 175 beater bike.

The exhaust was SOOOO rusted that it practially fell

off.

I priced a new pipe for it, and was like YA RIGHT!!

It was worth more than the bike.

So I cut the muffler off it far enough back that there

was actually solid metal, welded a piece of pipe to it,

and installed a small $50 tractor muffler.

Had to make special brackets. But I got it mounted

good.

Only 175cc Honda to have a can almost as big as the

12s.....

It worked fine, sounded cool, but that muffler got HOT.

After a hard ride in the trails, it would be glowing

hot.

I dropped it in the trails after that, and ended up with a

leg under that pipe. It melted my coveralls, and jeans,

and burnt my leg pretty good. After 11 years, I am just

starting to get a little hair growing back on that spot.

when I was 14, i got a hold of a Honda XR 75 with a blown engine. I took a Briggs and Stratton engine out of a "procured" lawn edger and fitted a centrifugal clutch on the end of the crankshaft, ran a chain from that to a jackshaft, then used another chain to the rear wheel! That thing was pretty slow off the line, but because of the gearing, it had top end from hell! Easily whooped ass on a stock engined XR 75! Looked pretty strange, but my parents were very "anti motorcycle"....so I had to make my own. That was my first "powered" 2 wheeled vehicle

I was at a light about a year ago, and there was this geeky looking severly overweight dude on a a white Kawasaki Police bike with all the accessories, white cop fiberglass saddlebags, blue cop blinkers on them, white cop batters helmet with decals on both sides, headset with hands free microphone, big whip antennae, and on the the tank, I swear to god, where those gold badge looking decals that say "I support my Local Police".

These are the type of people you hear about stealing womens underwear from clotheslines.

I am not kidding.... I saw it with my own two eyes.

When I was 6 years old I put clothes pins on the forks and rear frame of my bicycle with baseball cards connected to it and when I rode, the cards would make noise when the spokes hit them and made believe it was a motorcycle!!!

At 15 yrs old, I had a 71 honda CB 350. I got hold of a jc whitney catalog. Bought a full header system (no baffle) and the biggest farring I could find. Then I mounted a transistor radio and hard wired a big speaker too it.

If a little is good, too much has got to be better.

Lets see...

KE100 frame with a Jawa moped engine in it, top speed of about 20

Heavily modified Suzuki FA50 moped, ported the cylinder, bored out the carb and intake pipe, made my own exhaust/expansion chamber, auxilliary gas tank mounted on rack from a lawn mower, homemade "sportbike windshield", auxilliary lighting ala farm supply store. custom rustoleum black paint. Put 13K miles on that baby in 2 years. Had a top speed that went from 25 stock to a full 55mph. Used to ride it on higway 61 from my home town to dubuque, boy do people look at you funny.

KD80 frame/engine with KE100 suspension/street equipment taken from KE100 frame when Jawa engine grenaded.

GS750L with windshield, highway pegs, backrest, saddlebags, and most of all the indash tape deck mounted to the handlebar clamps and two weather resistant speakers zip tyed to the handlebars. A 16 year old's gold wing.
