I realize this is an old thread, but like all here, I'm trying to disassemble the fork tubes on my ZX-12 to replace leaking seals. Hoped I could do it the "easy" way and just remove the bolt from the bottom and slide the assembly apart. But the internals are just spinning. Any ideas? Don't feel like spending hundreds of dollars on special tools for a one-time job. Live 100 miles from the nearest dealer, so that aint' happing. I've changed lots of inverted fork seals before, but nothing as weird as these KYB forks.

Well, I tried my 300 ft-lb. impact wrench. Spins like a top, but won't come out. Put the assembly on the floor and leaned into it as best I could..spins like a top and won't come out.
