A friend of mine's getting a ZX9R. Looks like a great bike; I've never ridden one before. How would a 12 with 180 rear tire compare to the ZX9R handling-wise? Would equal riders find the 180 shod ZX12 much different in the corners compared to a stock 9? (What size tires do they come with, 190's?)
As for the rest, I remember seeing on this board someone saying that they "are the same bike 'til 150", is that kinda sorta true?
Thanks!!

if you set your 12 up properly (ie, suspension, tires, etc) then you'll find an amazing difference in how it handles. I've got mine setup more like a track bike and it handles like it's 50 lbs lighter. I dropped the forks 3/4" and got the preload cranked up in front and back (add a little rear height). It handles amazing and I haven't even had an opportunity to get a 180 on it yet

Thanks guys I appreciate it! I forgot about the dropping the forks thing---I've done it on other bikes but sometimes the 12 seems so damn, uh, techno/advanced/mystical that i forget about stuff like that. .
I'd just like to do the 12 justice. Wish I could ride like MadMal (or a lot of you) and show what the big Ninja can do...lol.
I guess I wondered mostly what the (70 lbs?) weight difference would amount to.
Any suggestions for suspension settings for a 170 lb rider to try??? I don't mind if it's a bit harsher if it corners better.
I know that its the rider to a great extent---I'd love to be that rider too!
Just for the heck of it; what chain/sprockets make the swingarm shorter for easier cornering---I really don't mind losing a few mph at the top for more driveablity!
Can't wait to put the 180 on the back! I have some more life on the last 200 but I'm getting a bit antsy to changer 'er out! Any advice welcomed.
Thanks a million!

I can tell you that my buddies who ride ZX-9R's seem to keep up pretty well UNTIL we reach 150-165 or so, the they just
seem to fade away......
