Hello everyone. I have an odd question. I'm looking to upgrade to a ZX14R from a GSXR600. I'm Looking to get one between 2012 and 2015 as they seem to be decently priced from what I have seen. I've noticed that they have the nissin brake calipers on them where as my GSXR has a set it brembos. Now my buddy that I ride with has a cbr300 that has the nissin calipers and they seem solid. I also understand that the calipers and brakes are engineered for the vehicles they are going to stop. I am curious however since the newer 14's have brembos I thought it would be a cool upgrade to put a set of brembos off a newer on it. Along with doing a braided brake line kit would be awesome. Is this possible or are the mounting points different etc. I know with enough cutting grinding and welding anything is possible but I'm not about to risk my life for that. If it's not a straight swap I'm not interested. Also would the ABS module need to be reset with the braided lines and the calipers and is that something I can do or does that need to be done by a dealer? Oh one last thing since I'm on here and to stirr some trouble is the clutch a cable or hydraulic if hydraulic do they make a braided kit for that as well? Because that would be awesome if so.

The Brembos are an option for the Special Edition in various countries and years. Some countries had Special Edition versions of the ZX14R with Ohlins suspension and the Akropovic exhaust from the factory as well as Brembos, had that been available in the US I would have been all over it, we do get Brembos on some special editions here but that is about it. None of the standard edition versions had anything but Nissin calipers radially mounted(true of either brand of caliper) here in the US and they are more than fine.

I'm on my second ZX14R a 2015. The first one was one of the very first 2012 models to hit the US I got in December 2011. ABS was not an option on the first one. The first one was totaled when someone took an abrupt illegal right turn in an intersection from the middle lane across the front of me, the carpool/motorcycle ok lane was on the right. The 2015 replaced it. I am happy to report that the anti lock braking is not too intrusive and unnoticable with my riding style.

For anyone living in the US, the EPA tested the ZX14R and up to 2015 it actually put out in excess of 200 rear wheel horsepower, not 197 as Kawasaki had claimed so they were scolded about underrating their bike. This is the first bike I have owned where I have had no desire to give it any more power. The Akropovic exhaust I want more for looks and weight than anything.

There is something else to consider, up until a few years ago, once the fuel got low enough it would flash low fuel and no longer show the level, this was changed in addition to being able to switch the LCD display from Black lettering with the background standard LCD silver or reverse it to black background.
