Raced an 07 gsxr 1k, Need help!

So, I fixed my problem just like I was told. The PC fixed my off idle stumble and made the bike feel a lot better.

Last night a friend of mine had his new GSXR 1000 out, it has a pair of yosh slip ons and a PC. The bike hauls!

My 02 12 has a full hindle system, PC3 and an RSC damper. It weighs 530 with a full tank of gas w/o me. Im 220 and my friend is about 190.

Anywho last night we started playing around doing roll ons. In 1st gear I get about a bike on him then he just pulls away by about 2-3 bikes and I cant catch. In 4th at 100km(65mph) I jump about 2 bikes then he pulls up and 2-3 bike lengths me again. Now heres what gets me in 4th at 50 mph I pull 2 bikes and pull away from him, then by the time his bike is wound up he cant catch.

We werent in any area to do the 6th gear roll ons that I was hoping for but im just wondering what I can do to put that gxxr in its place!!

Im considering maybe dropping a tooth on the front sprocket to see if that will make it pull harder when needed! Theres no problems with wheeling now so... who knows. I dont want to do any major work just make it very comparable to my friends bike.

Its a 12! and needs its respect back!
:P

You mentioned:

....I have ridden the 07 Gixxer 1000 and believe me, they are no slouch....in the first few gears I couldn't really tell which was faster! Keep in mind my 12 weighs 465 w/a splash of fuel and a bottle hooked up. We weighed his and it was 420 w/no fuel and a slip on....fortunately he weighs a good 30-40 more than I, so total weight is about even

Moving on, in 6th gear roll-ons, w/me -1 up front, he floats away a couple of bikes...then we lock eventually. In all other gears I get him....and the lower the gears the better for ME as I don't get the wheelies he does

Your friend is 30 pounds lighter than you, + his bike is potentially 100 pounds lighter on a given day. 130 pounds!

Bro, I can sit here and lie to you saying oh yeah, adjust your power commander, regear, lighten up the bike a little....but the fact of the matter is you are significantly up on weight.....

No economical way around it: Dry nitrous kit. 40 shot will put you out ahead. Before you cry about not wanting to spray your bike LOTS of people on here including me spray a 40 shot w/no probs. Colder plugs, premium pump gas, bump up the fuel on your power commander accordingly and go!

I would go with a 17 tooth, and spraying the moment you shift into 2nd should be ok w/wheelies if you keep your weight forward, but try 3rd first as I think you are stock height.

Remove your mirrors, signals, bar ends, rear footpegs/brackets, rear fender surgery, and pick up some BMC race filters to help your bike breathe better.

Dry nitrous kits are ridiculously cheap now. Check out Cold Fusion (skinart on the board here sells em) and dynotunenitrous is also very inexpensive.

Best of luck!

gxxr

I dont mind nitrous, before I went to a turbo on my street car I ran nitrous and its fun except when you have to refill the bottle.

I think going to the 17 front will help it a lot, that will we be the 1st thing to try then ill re race him to see if it adds anything. As for nitrous I guess that will have to be the ticket if I want to beat him.

Doing a drag race from a dead stop will be a good test, shows the ultimate HP and the rider has a lot to do with it!

Thx!

Stock GSXR1000 comes with approx. 189mph worth of gearing if I remember correctly....

Stock ZX-12R comes with approx. 196mph worth of gearing... I know this for a fact.

Point: You're giving up 1.5 teeth worth of gearing stock vs stock.
Solution: Go with a 17 tooth front sprocket which should put you around 183mph at the rev limiter in 6th... giving YOU a 1 tooth advantage over him.

If he's only pulling you by 2-3 bikes consistantly, the 17 tooth sprocket will give you an even bigger jump initially, and will keep him behind you once his bike gets into its power up top.

In theory Phantom...

Having run against these new 07 Gixxers I can only give you this info:

Both of us were about the same HP since I didn't spray.

I had the 17 tooth on

My bike also weighed about 70 pounds more than his, but he is a good 30-40 more than me (rememeber though I do have carbon wheels).

However this guy is at a 130ish pound deficit....and, having done roll-ons w/Warp12 when we were about the same (stock wheels, muzzy pipe) and having that kind of advantage on him, I can tell you it wasn't close unless I handicapped him a gear.

The 17 tooth will HELP, but if someone w/my weight and my mods had it floating away 6th vs 6th and only did better in the lower gears ... I'm afraid he will do only a little better than w/the 18.

Nos is the answer!

Sprocket

Phantom: I never looked at it that way but it makes perfect sense!!

The only question I have is how much is my speedo going to be out going down a tooth in the front?? and will it kill my mileage? Ive been as low was 36 MPG canadian and 48 on a high so far. Riding it on the highway sure makes it drink less thats for sure.

The answer to see if it adds will be when I race him doing the same races.

Remember, HE SAID HE'S ONLY LOSING BY A FEW BIKELENGTHS!!!! He doesn't "need" Nitrous to make up a few bikelengths dude. lol

As for your experiences against the K7, well... not every rider/bike combo will produce the same results. You know that, Ali. In theory, he should be getting mopped up, and YOU OF ALL PEOPLE KNOW JUST HOW MUCH WATER "THEORIES" HOLD IN THE RACING WORLD!!! *cough* Deezul's 10R *cough*. It's best to look at the results of his races instead of always crunching numbers.

Also, during your 6th gear roll-on races with that K7, Did it ever occur to you that the gear ratio's of the ZX-12R and the GSXR1000 are DIFFERENT in each gear, meaning a specific "gear" roll-on between two different model bikes may give one bike the gearing advantage over the other IN THAT SPECIFIC GEAR? Look at the tranny ratio's between the K7 and the ZX-12R in 6th gear for example....

ZX-12R 6th - 1.03
GSXR 6th - 1.26

Yes, primary and final drive gear ratio's are very similar as well!!! SO you can see how in a 6th gear roll-on the GSXR1000 has the gearing advantage over the ZX-12R by far.

Going to a 17 "toofer" will give him the acceleration he needs to make up those bikelengths. Will Nitrous do the trick? HELL YES!! But that's like using a shotgun to kill a spider... a simple whack with a shoe will do the job with a lot less hassle and funding.

You're advising this guy to spend close to $500 between the kit, install, and tuning to achieve something that can be done with a $25 countersprocket.

Besides, if his buddies find out he needed NITROUS to beat stock engine 1000's.... it makes HIM look bad.[/b]

The speedo is already "off" with stock gearing believe it or not. The gearing combo that produces the most accurate speedo reading is 18/44 gearing ( stock is 18/46 ). I can't really tell you exactly "how much" the 17 toofer will throw off your speedo, but if accuracy is what you're after... you may want to pick up a speedohealer. If you REAAAALLLLY want to know how EXACTLY how fast you're going, get a GPS and strap it over the speedo.

Fuel economy will SUFFER on the highway since you'll be operating at higher RPM's at any given speed than when you had stock gearing. I'm using somewhat similar gearing and at 80mph indicated (no speedohealer) on the speedo I'm pushing approx. 5,000rpm in 6th gear. I wish I could tell you exact fuel economy but I'm running a very high spec race engine in my ZX-13R and it inhales fuel. I think I'm getting somewhere around 20 mpg... and that's with me just cruising around on the highway.

It's great on the city streets though!!! So much easier to breeze through the gears and get around traffic.

I think a 17 tooth will make up for a few bikelengths. With me +6 overall (me 17/47...Ali at 18/44), my bike could clearly walk Ali in roll-ons. I would say I that I was 40 lbs. rider/bike on him at the time...hp about the same.

CLEARLY? What about the fact that I had no ram air connected or lower fairings?

Want a rematch? :D

At the speeds we were running (140 mph and below), I don't think the ram air was a big difference. You were still getting "cooler air" with your setup.

If you run 18/44...I will happily stomp you with my 17/47. On video. Anytime.

Bring it on FAT BOY

You're going down! We pick the SPEED and I pick my appropriate gear...not this "6th gear from 3k" crap

I'm still saying that 12 guys should get nitrous, period. Most 12 guys aren't small, but many liter guys are. In THOSE type of situations nitrous would be NEEDED to lock or win.

I could jump on a bone stock gixxer 1000 and pull several bike lengths on most 12 guys I'm sure due to my weight. I just look at having a nitrous kit at a "preventive" measure for the "inevitable".

You NEVER KNOW what may be lurking on the streets

Sprocket

I ordered up my new sprocket today, 25 list and I buy it for 17 so n2b!

Nitrous is good, but its the same with street cars. I run a 114mm turbo on my street car and friends run nitrous, they always have the excuse their bottle is low or the pressure is low.. etc :). Their nothing without their bottle..LOL

It is a cheap kick in the pants tho..

It's kind of sad that a 1200cc bike cant beat on that 1000 with ease...
Then again technology is moving forward and my 12 is still 02 technology! This sprocket hopefully closes the gap!

I just dont want to go around being scared of 1 litre bikes! :P
