Since a few weeks I'm visiting the web site www.ZX-12R.org and I was was not happy reading all the stuff about dirt in the airbox. Last week I checked my bike and I was shocked. So last night I got registered to get in touch with you guys. Is there anything to do about it. Are K&N filters better?

My cousin is a machinist and they test airfilters at his shop. He said that K&N's will flow better than anything else but they also let in a lot of dirt (finer particles) from what I've heard they are a bitch to get in and out so I just modded my stock ones, I think that'll be good for me

I clean and re-oil my stock filters more regularly now. If you let the foam filters go dry they will let in dirt, but if you keep them oiled they work very well at trapping dirt.

After cleaning my airbox I also put a thin layer of grease all along the bottom and sides to help catch the dirt before it gets sucked in. I also put grease around the edges of the filter to help seal it against the sides better. I have not checked my airbox lately, but I feel better about the dirt now.

After I saw the mess in my airbox I cleaned it and covered the inside of the airbox with grease. Since I cleaned my ZX's airbox I rode 1000 km and I will check my airbox next friday. Next week will write a letter about this to the Dutch Kawasaki importer. I also will enclose some pictures off my dirty airbox. I'm very keen to know what they will say. Maybe the '02 model has better airfilters.

So K&N filters are no solution for this big problem!
