Throttle Position Sensor - Grrrrrrrr.

In poking around concerning Richard and Kraits TPS problems, I have found out some interesting things.

The zx-12r is a non-contact type sensor which uses a magnetic field to determine throttle position, not a mechanical arrangement.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Kawasaki requires you to purchase the whole fuel injection body to replace the TPS switch. Unless I am overlooking something, that is bullshit.

Rich thinks the gixxer's may use the same sensor so I am going to check into that - while Suzuki WILL sell you just the sensor, it is like $70. Again, bullshit.

There has got to be a supplier of these sensors. Mine shows the number 160211 stamped in yellow on the top.

Could another member with an '00 please check yours? The TPS is on the left side of the bike, sticking on the end of the #1 cylinder fuel injector body, and can be easily seen 3" directly above the coolant reservoir tank cap. The # 160211 is stamped on the top of it.

I can't believe that this sensor could possibly cost more than a few bucks to make. Perhaps if we can determine this is the part #, we can track down a supplier from there.

We have GOT to resolve this and find a reasonable source for the various sensors on these bikes, as you never know when another one of us might need a sensor. These sensors (TPS, Temp, MAP, etc....) are extremely expensive from Kawasaki. Outrageously expensive even.

Here is Mikunis link concerning the sensor. Unfortunately, you cannot order from them directly as far as I can tell.

Okay, since you have a Euro spec bike, it could be a different #, lets see what some of the other U.S. 49 state bikes have.

I'm on a mission, dammit! This will be solved!!!

Yes, thats what I'm beginning to think...

I'm going to call Mikuni's Cali office and see if I can derive more info.

Hell, for all I know maybe they only make one type of radial magnetic sensor.

I'll check the new gixxer1k and Kaw 636, and if they have the identical looking sensor, maybe thats the case.... :) Could it be that simple???

Damn Blitz, I wish I could remember where I read it at. (Maybe someone else will remember where the thread was at) Someone had 4 or 5 of them for sale. That would mean they are avialiable somewhere, even if it means we have to buy them in bulk. I wouldn't mind having a spare myself. I wish now, I would have saved the info. :( Duane

This may be the thread you are thinking of Duane:

I believe Five-O's sensors are surplus from his dirt racing endeavors - used not new.

Nope, that wasn't it. It was just TPS sensors. It may have been on (cringe) one of the other sportbike web-sites.

Okay. Duane if you happen to stumble upon anything please let me know. People or posts would help - I'd prefer not to have to spend 20 hours on this if I can find someone who knows the info we are looking for.

I'd like to resolve this for everybody who has a bike that uses this sensor, I don't care what kind of bike or what board.

And I agree with you, if we could find a reasonably priced supplier, I would love to stockpile a few of these bad boys in my goody tray.
