My 2003 ZX12R B2 - First Post

Bought this about 6 months ago as an upgrade from a ZX636R.

Old bike:



New bike when I bought it:



It was in good nick when I bought it, needed a damn good clean though. Fantastic bike, ridiculously quick compared to my 636 but significantly more cumbersome in the corners, even with a 190 rear tyre! Need to have a play with suspension settings...

It had FSH and some decent extras:

ASV C/5 Series Unbreakable Levers
Wavy discs
Carbon hugger
Give top box rack and box
Tinted double bubble screen
R&G crash bungs
R&G bar ends
R&G paddock stand bobbins
Meta Alarm
Optimate
Tail tidy
Braided HEL lines front and rear

Have since removed the top box.

I have a few bits and bobs waiting to be fitted over the winter:

Full titanium akro system (astonished at how light this is compared to stock)
25mm jack up kit and OHLINS spring and fork internals and set up for weight
Some genuine carbon bits, hanger, heel guards, etc
black powder coated pegs/footrest
small but legal plate
USB charger/twisty rider satnav for some touring trips planned


I want to get the newer model radial brakes/front forks. Cant seem to find any on eBay or elsewhere at the moment.

Anywhere great forum. Loads of stuff here I never knew existed and some gorgeous bikes too. I am not interested in more power as the last six months have been eye-blurringly fast, I am just after a few suspension and weight saving/handling mods. Mostly for road use and a few trips to Europe but I plan on having a few track sessions on her next year.

p.s I am a Kawasaki man through and through having owned a ZXR400, two ZX6Rs, a ZX636 and now this. I briefly owned a VFR800. It was mind numbingly boring!

Don't throw out those GIVI arms, they're as rare as Rocking Horse shit. Plenty of people will take them off you if you don't intend to refit them.

Least you brought the fastest colour scheme which is good for 10HP over lesser models I cannot mention

nice bike don't worry about those fruit coloured bikes, their owners will go on and on about speed and acceleration but we know better Craig

if anything goes wrong check the battery

Welcome, you have chosen wisely..
looks like she's been well looked after.
You're gonna have some warp speed fun, the only thing that frustrates with these bikes is the tank range. If you're planning some touring , bare this in mind, you'll be looking for fuel every 100 miles.
Check out the sticky thread about oil in the rectifier conector.

Does anyone know what make the screen and sat nav brackets are, they're just what I'm looking for.

Congrats man that's a great lookin 12 you bought yourself there! Nice 636 u had as well, that's one of the all time great middleweights. Enjoy that 12 and remember to keep an eye on your fuel level it sure goes quick...

For Tech Questions Bike Model letters and Country are more useful than saying the year, for UK owners anyway, as registration year is not always the year of manufacturer model.

It does seem to me that the Finnish on these bikes is very good. Like an old 885 Triumph triple I have a while back, looked like it had just come out of the showroom .. Thick paint, thick chrome, good quality plastics etc. My year 2000 one with 40000 miles looks like new.

How many miles has this one done ? Fully service history..including valve SHIMMS ?

What Mauser is trying to say, is that he's commiserating with you on buying the very common Black and Brown version which sadly isn't anywhere near as cool or as quick as the rarer colours

Welcome mate. Midnight blue/gold is the best colour by far. As said above keep hold of the Givi arms and brackets. Almost impossible to get hold of. Took me months of searching.

Thanks for the comments guys.

It has done 20k with good history but no sign of the valve clearances yet so going to have to bite the bullet on that one in the next few thousand miles.

It has just passed its MOT with no dramas. I have been busy the last day or so getting it ready for the season and oil/filter/general servicing etc.

Full titanium Akrapovic system installed with Hexagonal Carbon Titanium can. This weighed in, with R&G hanger, at 4.2kg on the scale which is a massive difference compared to stock which came in at just over 11kg! Very impressed, especially as I basically got it at no cost.

Do need to get the baffle though as it is very loud and I doubt it would pass an MOT without! Anyone got a spare...?

I have removed the decals from the bike as they were a bit aged but it looks pretty good so will keep it this way. Want to get the wheels painted satin black too.

I have sorted out my navigation system as can be seen in the photos below. Bit of vibration at high speed makes the screen hard to read so might look at mounting it somewhere else, although it is nice and shaded due to the screen.

Smaller, but still legal (maybe?) plate fitted.

Black rearsets with carbon fibre heel guards fitted.

Just the Dynojet PC3 to fit now, need to get the 9V adapter to sort out the map on it (eBay buy) if anyone has a spare? Or I will make one up.
