Help. Are my headers stainless or titanium??
Hey guys,
So I recently got an incredible deal on a full muzzy system with a carbon can for my ZX-12.
I have no idea if the headers and mid pipe are stainless or titanium by the looks of them. The seller I got the system from on ebay was a motorcycle junkyard, so they didn't know either.
As for the color, that's what is really throwing me for a loop. It's dark gold like stainless, yet has some blue and purple as well. I do know stainless can get blue if it gets too hot. I'm still not sure though. Also, just the header not including the mid pipe weighs just about 7 pounds and the total system with the can weighs about 13 pounds, if that helps.
I've attached a couple of pics. Let me know what you guys think!

I was told this is titanium. As for weight. I have it written down somewhere but at the moment going off memory my stock exhaust was like 26#s and this exhaust pictured here is like 9#s.
Hope this helps.

@Dastardly
Haha those suckers aren't going anywhere. I got the whole system for $275 shipped! I jumped on it the second I saw
@olajoe808
That's what I figured. Those pics you posted are definitely titanium. Yet there's times where I've seen some titanium with a ton of miles on it that looks like stainless. I really want to wrap my headers just to reduce the heat since 12's get hot to begin with. Plus I ride my bike A LOT and do a lot of city riding. I could care less about the theoretical power gains that people always talk about. I just want to avoid installing the headers without wrap only to find out they were stainless!

Regardless of the composition. That's a great deal.
Oh yea for sure. I could care less whether it's titanium or not. Just figured I'd wrap them if not.
I weighed my stock headers and my shortened yoshi slip on and there's about an 8LB difference between the systems. Any weight savings on a bike is huge

The titanium is supposedly one of the lighter in the bunch. But there's probably as many for it as they are against it. With the limited options available it's no wonder good condition priced right exhaust get swept up right away. There's just so many trashed over priced listings it's good to be at the right place and time. You nailed it. Speaking of luck, someone perhaps a member here snagged a brand new arata recently. A little pricey, but greatly reduced. I emailed the seller to negotiate, he knew what he had. Someone scored there big time.
Yea some Ti systems weigh less than 10 pounds.
Thankfully I got very lucky with mine. I had been searching for a full system since January and the only ones I came across were $500+ and were in terrible condition usually off of salvage bikes. I did see a really nice akra system a few months back, yet it sold for 750.
There's another full muzzy system like mine on ebay now for 400. It's older and in must worse shape though. Also a full yoshi system with a carbon tri oval on there for NINE HUNDRED lol
I've seen some guys with 12's get akra slip on's for a 05-06 gixxer 1000 and put it on their aftermarket headers. Apparently they bolt right up as long as the muffler inlet is 60mm. You could try going that route if you already have aftermarket headers

We've been watching the same listings. For awhile there were a few microns, striker, ti force and maybe another from that same Japan seller. Had a chance to purchase a yoshimura S/o xmas special passed on it regrettably at the time. If there were no more full exhaust systems Tbh hard to beat the stock exhaust for a midnight/ early am run around the metro . I miss that stealth. Now I roll my bike and start it down the street.
I was thinking about the spark test as well. I may quickly hit the outlet part of the mid pipe to see what color the sparks are. The pipes aren't magnetic either, but a lot of the good stainless isn't
I've got my yoshi rs-3 slip-on for sale if anyone is interested too. I shortened it about 8 inches and resleeved it with a brand new sleeve kit from yoshimura. Has a new badge as well. I'd sell it for $220 shipped if anyone wants a slip-on. A pic of what it looked like shortened up is down below.

Hey guys so here's a pic of what the muzzy system looks like on my bike after I shortened the can about 6 inches. I love it.
Now just have to adjust my muzzy PC V map accordingly

Yea I don't like REALLY short either. I could've went shorter, but I just don't think it would look right. Also not a fan of the really long pipes, as the muzzy was only a few inches shorter than the stock monster can before I cut it.
What a frickin difference in power though. It's incredible....as if our 12's need more power lol
I do like the red too, but the fairings have some miles on them and there's a massive crack on the tank cover near the gas cap from the previous owner. Painting the wheels black and switching to the ole kawi green fairings over the winter!
