01 clutch slipping

Need some help. Previous I dealt with a terrible chatter or judder. Now we added the two frontal chattering rings back into the back. The whole clutch assembly is slipping,so what can cause this problem. I’m running a billet basket with a drilled inner hub. Thanks in advance

Weak springs ?...sorry don't know much else apart from worn plates that can or could go wrong.

zx6r clutch springs

If your clutch is slipping then perhaps you have overheated the springs

I have seen online that zx6r springs 92144-1881 are an upgrade, I put 3ea 6r springs and 3ea 12r springs alternatively spaced, some put in all 6 but I haven't felt the need or a want to develop my left forearm.

clutch plates and steels glazed? For some reason I recall the steels should be installed with the burr on the OD facing out for smoothest clutch operation.

edit: just noticed on parts page for 2004 zx12r they list spring, clutch 92145-1087 6 req. and spring, clutch operating 92144-1881 6 req. Note:option

What type of oil are you using? Not an automotive type with friction modifiers I hope?

Afew things to try.
1/ Make sure your cable is correctly adjusted.
2/ Make sure you have correct "stack height"
3/ While measuring your stack , see if the steels have any "blueing" if so , either replace with new or rough up with a file or emery paper (wipe clean afterwards)
4/Measure springs , replace with new or ZX6R
5/ hit with hammer.

Check this thread out as well for specs.

Study material for BigSkip765

Yes, another clutch question @ ZX12R ZONE.com

One thing I notice at the end of that thread, is he said he had to adjust his lever way out to release, but his cable is way too tight at the cover.. so be aware of that.

ive never really looked into the whole, "car oil will make your clutch slip" thing, but ive used car oil without an issue on race bikes. if its more slippery, is that not good for everything else? just increase the clutch clamping force so it doesnt slip?

feel free to educate me if im wrong

shell rotella t4 15 40 used in this bike.

A lot of the Rotella blends don't have the friction modifiers. As long as it is JASO MA spec.
And it may be a wives tale, but there are reports over the years of slipping stock clutches that used auto spec oil, and it was just another thing to check given all the problems the OP is having.

FYI, Shell Rotella T4 15-40: JASO DH-2, MA, MA2, suitable for MC wet clutches.
