Welcome Stuart I think you might have an A2H.
Which area of the UK are you?

There's nothing wrong with a extra wheel. A1 Model year 2000

if it has the 220 gauges its usually a 2000 (A1), unless someone has swapped a set on a later bike.
easiest way to tell the difference between the 00 and 01 (A2) would be to check the ecu plugs. the 00 has 2 large plugs where 01 has 1 large and 1 smaller.
sometimes bikes that are sold as left over get registered as a year newer.

We have been here so many times I thought everyone would know the lesser colours are purely primer for the fast Black & Gold bikes ?
Kawasaki did the recall many years ago after apologising for shipping bikes out to customers in primer only ?, did you not get the recall letter cmg

From what I've been able to find the only real difference is the that the 1st production run of the 1A model was rushed (but planned that way) to be built. This was done because the 2000 ZX12R was a completely new redisigned bike (predecessor ZX11), and there was a gentleman agreement in the works by all of the sportbike manufacturers to restrict the top speeds. This was being done in order to avoid the EU form passing an official regulation that would surely impose much stricter rules / regulations on bikes in order to control speed and increase safety.
So, because Kawasaki had spent so much time and money in both disign and mechanical improvements they wanted to prove what they'd produced. But in order for it to be accepted as an official production bike they had to supply a certain number to the customer base.
Therefore they pushed up the production of the first bunch and sent them out to dealers / customers for retail sales. Is was kept pretty quiet to avoid the politics at the time.
So there are a few of that production run around. Many may not even realize that hey have one. And by many people its been considered a bit of an urban myth and they don't exist. But trust me they do exist..... I have one! 😉
With K&N intake, Muzzy pipe, and chipped...... 200mph+++
