Transmission upshift problem!

Finally got the bike back together after a couple years and rode it today and ran into a transmission upshifting problem. It will downshift totally fine. It is very hard to get out of 1st into second will get stuck in neutral a lot. This will happen a lot trying to shift up into all gears and between any gear it will go into a neutral like state. I also trying upshifting with no clutch and it seemed better through the higher gears 1st to second is the worst. This is a new tranny to the bike it looked good before going in. My original tranny had bad dogs on second so I replaced it. My bike is an 00. Hoping I can fix this without a tear down Thanks

check that the linkage is installed properly. you want it to be at 90 degrees and then adjust the shifter up or down by adjusting the length of the rod (not by the splines)

Thanks that's definitely going to be my step one.

Adjusted that it's way better and rideable now but still feel it should be shifting abit better sometimes 1st to 2nd still isn't the easiest and my FI light is on now lol

KZScott 06-02-2018 08:41 AM

what code?

cybertech 06-02-2018 08:52 AM

Haven't checked it yet decided to set it aside and get some other things done today

cybertech 06-02-2018 10:03 AM

Decided to check and when I jump the wire the FI light will stay on and that's all I get and now no light on

Any more ideas on the Shifting?

cybertech 06-02-2018 02:29 PM

Getting code 12 now there was no light then popped.it.in gear and light came on

KZScott 06-02-2018 07:25 PM

code 12 is iap sensor
if you just did the trans, maybe you dont have it together quite right? a spring out of place maybe?
you do know the positive neutral finder prevents shifting from 1-2 when not moving correct? its possible thats damaged.

cybertech 06-02-2018 09:03 PM

How can I see if it's damaged? Maybe I'll pull.tye side cover off and possible clutch and take a good look there too really.hoping I don't have to drop.the engine out

KZScott 06-02-2018 10:10 PM

you cant see that unless you take the trans apart. its 3 little ball bearings that block a gear from sliding until centrifugal force moves them out of the way. they usually get taken out on a race bike to prevent the possibility of a missed shift due to a failure.

cybertech 06-02-2018 10:41 PM

Yeah I remember seeing them now that u talk about them could there be anything else that would effect my other shifts too

KZScott 06-03-2018 07:11 AM

the springs etc on the shift mechanism behind the clutch could be messed up

cybertech 06-03-2018 07:26 AM

Yeah I might double check that I want to see how my oiling mods turned out on the clutch too as for my code 12 I have a manual so.i can go through and check it out
